[Y/N]

My heart is beating loudly in my chest as the van comes to a halt. I stare out the window. This is it, my new home..

I can feel a panic attack coming up as I try to steady my breathing. The base was huge, way bigger than my previous one, and the garden was full of bushes with wildflowers blossoming amongst it.

I got the call about two weeks ago. A transfer. A man by the name of ''Captain Price'' requested me after getting his hands on my file. He spoke to me personally on the phone. Of Course, i was flattered, but also terrified. I joined the army 8 years ago, always loyal to my team and my base. But it was time for a change, at least, that's what they all told me. I can still hear their warm encouraging words in my head.
''This is a sign..you need a new start''

My squad couldn't have been more supportive of my decision to leave. Even though I am sure it hurts them just as much as it did me. I swallow as my heart feels heavy. God, I miss them already. Why did I leave again?

That was another thing. If Mr. Captain Price calls for you personally, you go. You would be a fool not to feel a bit honored to even be considered for Task Force 141. At least, that's what was said to me when I explained my doubts.

I clench my locket in my hand. The gold feels cold as it touches my skin. I always wear it, under my clothes of course so it doesn't get snatched during combat. It's pretty small and dainty anyway. Just big enough to hold the smallest bit of ash and a rolled-up strand of hair.

Four.

I always called him by his callsign, as we tried to keep things professional, but we failed horribly. Not even a month after meeting we would sneak away together when we were off duty. We were madly in love with each other. My partner, my soulmate. I still see his bright blue eyes when I close my eyes. His warm smile comforted me, making all my worries and fears go away in an instant. His blond hair wavy as it bounced in the wind. When he wore his helmet the strands would occasionally pop out playfully.

I feel my heart drop as I remember my last memory of him. My hands are getting shaky and sweaty as I let go of my locket. Not now, not now...
I try to push the images away, but the harder I try, the more vividly they play in my mind.

I jolt up as the van door opens. The images disappear as a friendly-looking woman stares at me with a kind smile. I take a deep breath as I try to calm myself.

''Welcome Y/N, You may call me Laswell.'' Her tone is warm as she looks me up and down.
''I will be taking you to the Captain, how was the trip?''
She tries to make small talk as I take my bag and jump out of the van. I extend my hand to shake hers.
''Not too bad'' I say with a small smile. ''Pleasure to meet you ma'am''

Laswell smiles at me as she nods approvingly. ''Pleasure is mine, please follow me. The team is already waiting..''

Wait what? NOW?

I swallow hard as I follow Laswell into the base. It looks more like a school building, I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what it used to be.
Okay focus, so I am meeting the team now!? God, I was hoping I could at least take a shower or something. I really need to calm down dealing with all these emotions at once..

No, cut it out. You're a soldier for god's sake. Since when did I become so soft?

I recompose myself as I straighten my shoulders. I see Laswell glancing at me but she doesn't say anything. I get the feeling she can tell I am feeling a bit off. Appreciate the fact she doesn't bring it up.

Laswell stops at the end of the hallway. She knocks with the back of her hand.
''Come on in'' A male voice can be heard on the other side. I recognized it instantly from the phone call. Captain Price.
