''Morning.''
Soap stands in the doorway of my office, as I just now realize I left it slightly open.
"Morning." I grumble, my tired eyes looking up as I then quickly glance at the time. 07:00. Looks like I pulled an all-nighter again.
Soap walks in as he scans my desk. Documents are scattered everywhere, mainly about Vince. A cold cup of coffee almost falling off the corner.
I printed everything I could find about him. Thanks to Y/N, I know her old team was in conflict with his group before. Which gave me some missing pieces to my puzzle.
''How is she?'' I ask, without looking up from the paper I was reading.
Soap hesitates, as he is still focused on my messy desk. I look up, which snaps him out of his thoughts.
''Concussion and some bruised ribs. She should be back on her feet tomorrow.'' He reports matter-of-factly.
I nod, trying to conceal my relief. ''That's good.'' I mutter.
I throw the paper on the stack as I lean back in my chair, folding my hands while looking at Soap intendly.''I guess that wasn't the reason for your visit. Was it?''
Soap chuckles awkwardly. ''Ya know me too well, Lieutenant''
''Tell me''
Soap sighs, as he breaks the news to me straight away.
''Y/N knows that she is being cut off from the mission. She is going to Price to protest. But, i insisted she saw you first..''I let out a long, dragged out sigh as I pinch the bridge of my nose.
''.. which she probably won't do.'' I grumble annoyed. I already anticipated that Y/N would be pissed off at my decision, but disrespecting my call as a Lieutenant is going too far.
''I will deal with it.'' I say to Soap, my voice low like a rumble. ''My decision is final''
''Is it?'' Soap asks softly.
I raise an eyebrow at him. He speaks before I can say anything else.
''I know. She told me her story.'' He says swallowing, his gaze instantly softening.
I stay quiet for a few seconds, slightly surprised yet relieved. Slowly I stand up from my desk chair as I start pacing back and forth. ''You do huh? I am actually glad she told you. Means its now two against one.'' I say calculated.
Soap frowns at my words, and I lock eyes with him. Making sure he understands that what I am about to say is serious.
''Now that you understand the seriousness of the situation, you'll appreciate why it's crucial to keep y/n away from him. It's our responsibility to ensure her safety''Soap nods, but his frown stays. ''Ghost, I agree but..maybe..'' He hesitates, trying to think out loud.
''Maybe she does need to be on this mission.''
I freeze in my tracks, my head jolting towards Soap.
''Didn't you hear me say my decision was final?'' I grumble annoyed, narrowing my eyes.He sighs. ''Ghost.. with all due respect. I understand she is emotional and that can make her reckless. But, with the right guidance, it could also be a strength..''
I slam my hands angrily on my desk, making it rumble.
''I am NOT taking that risk Johnny.'' I am seething, clenching my jaw.
