We're cruising down the road in the Twinkie until we get to where the truck crashed.

"Oh shit! They found the truck." I cry.

"Chill, chill, chill, chill." Pope mumbles.

"Relax, Darl. You'll be fine." JJ nods at me.

I squint my eyes shut as John b slowly lowers his window. "Good evening, officer."

I bite my nails as I hear Shoupe begin to talk.

"Sheriff." He nods.

"Sheriff, yeah, that's right." John b grunts. "Speed kills, huh?"

"I pulled the tags, and I know who's truck that is." He shines the flashlight further into the car, bringing me into light.

"Hey! Darl, you drop your weed pen back there?" He asks.

I look at him, pissed that I was caught. "Found it."

"Huh." He scoffs.

"Sheriff, I just wanna say that this is all my fault. She had nothing to do with this I take 100% responsibility." Pope blurts.

I scrunch my eyebrows, knowing Shoupe is bound to blame me anyways.

"Nothing to do with it? Uh- huh." He laughs. "You wanna try that again?"

I look at Pope and shake my head.

"Your step mom reported the truck missing four hours ago, and the keys missing from the house I'm taking you home." Shoupe declares to me.

I nod in defeat.

"Or I could pull you all in for leaving the scene of an accident." He shrugs.

"Okay." I sigh, planting my hands on my knees.

"Good." He orders Plumb to open my door.

She pulls it open, letting me out.

I groan, stepping out of the car.

"Hit me up later to make sure I'm still alive, I guess."

I look at JJ through the passenger window.

He holds up a phone sign. "Later."

I nod as Plumb pushes me along.

"Let's get you home." Shoupe nods as Plumb opens the door for me.

I sigh and lower myself into the cop car, sitting down as they shut the door for me.

I lean my head back on the seat, so pissed off it's not right.

Shoupe and Plumb get into the seats in front of me.

There's silence for a minute until the car starts moving.

"So, how's life, huh?"

I blink, why are they talking to me. "Fine?"

"Yeah, how are you after the news?"

Oh, now I know. I sort of forgot about all of that.

"Pissed off. But I'm fine." I look out my window.

"Darla you're a nice girl, you gotta stop getting into all this trouble." Shoupe sighs.

I clench my jaw.

"And though you ain't no nepo baby, you still have opportunities." He chirps. "You just gotta work for 'em, starting with not stealing your dads truck."

I cross my arms. "He doesn't own anything now that he's doing time."

"Your step mother does." Plumb adds on.
