Chapter #16
Feb 26th 2023
Scarlett’s POV
Everyone but Sam Jr and I went to bed Robbie and Liz went back to their place. “I know it’s two in the morning but I think it’s time you show him the song.” Sam says. “What song?” Jr asks. “I wrote this a week after we met. Your Ma put a guitar to it. I wrote it for you. But I was always nervous to show you.” I tell him. “I’d love to hear it, Mom.” He says. “I’ll get my guitar.” Sam says.
“He ain't got my smile, that don't bother me a bit”
“He's got somebody else's eyes I'm seein' myself in”
“I'm holdin' onto every moment, God knows I've missed a few”
“The day we met, I knew I had some catchin' up to do”
“He ain't my blood, ain't got my name”
“But if he did, I'd feel the same”
“I wasn't there for his first steps”
“But I ain't missed a ball game yet”
“And that ain't ever gonna change”
“I could never walk away”
“Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice”
“He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy”
“It hit me like a train, the first time he called me Mom”
“In a three stick figure crayon picture with all of us holdin' hands”
“His mama said, "I understand if it's too soon for this"
“I didn't let her finish, I took it to the kitchen and I stuck it on the fridge, yeah”
“He ain't my blood, ain't got my name”
“But if he did, I'd feel the same”
“I wasn't there for his first steps”
“But I ain't missed a ball game yet”
“And that ain't ever gonna change”
“I could never walk away”
“Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice”
“He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy”

I sit next to Jr and wrap my arms around him and continue to sing.

“He's Saturday morning cartoons”
“He's, "Hey, can I sleep in your room?"
“He's bigger than the plans I had”
“He's makin' me a better woman”
“He ain't my blood, ain't got my name”
“But if he did, I'd feel the same”
“I wasn't there for his first steps”
“But I ain't missed a ball game yet”
“And that ain't ever gonna change”
“I could never walk away”
“Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice”
“He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy”
“Yeah, he's my, he's my boy”

“That’s beautiful Mom. I love it.” He says. “I’m glad you like it. I mean it. You are my boy. I love you sweetie.” I tell him as I tear up. “I love you too Mom.” He says. Just as Sam is about to say something there is a very loud banging at the door the sudden noise causes Sam to jump a little. “Who the fuck are you and why are you banging on the door at two in the fucking morning!!” We hear Nicky yell. “We better go up there.” I say and Sam and Jr nod and we make our way upstairs and I am in shock to see Stacy in my doorway.
