*Homophobia warning
-Wes-
"Are you sure you don't want me to come in with you?" Ryland asks, parking in front of Mom's after we got food. Our little lunch date was great. We went to this new restaurant that opened up last week, and the food was incredible. We split our meals with each other, and the whole time I couldn't stop smiling because it made me think of our first date and how far we've come since then.
But now my good mood is probably about to come to an end.
"Her car is here, so I don't think it'd be the best idea."
"I don't want you to go alone, though," he mumbles.
"I'll be fine. I'm just going to pack a few things and come back again when she's not here."
"Well, what if she says something mean to you?"
"Then I guess I'll ignore her. What would you do anyway if she did?"
"Punch her." His face doesn't change from his serious demeanor, making me believe he might would actually do it.
I crack a small smile before letting a sigh out. "I'm hoping since she's had some time to sleep on it, she'll be more... I don't know, nicer?"
"Let me come in with you then. She might not lash out if I'm there."
"I think it would make it worse actually. She blamed you last night."
"Well, that's not technically wrong. I did pursue you until you caved. I feel bad honestly," he admits.
"Don't. I don't care what she thinks. I don't regret falling for you."
He stares at me for a moment, making me heat up. "Let me come in with you."
"If I'm not out within five minutes, you can come save me."
"Okay. I'll be getting my fists ready," he says, rubbing his hand over one.
I roll my eyes and let a laugh out before opening the car door. "Please don't hit my mom."
"I'm teasing. But please be quick or I might resort to it."
"Yeah, yeah." I close the door and force my feet to take me to the porch. I hesitate at the door. Do I knock? I furrow my brows. No. This was my home for nineteen years. I'm not knocking.
I turn the knob and step inside. The house sounds quiet besides the living room tv being on. I quietly close the door, but I guess it was loud enough to reveal my presence because Mom comes from the kitchen, freezing in her steps when she sees me.
"Wesley?"
"I..." I blink a few times. It feels weird being face to face with her again after how last night went. "I just came to get some of my things." I go to walk past her, but her words stop me.
"Where did you stay last night?"
"Where do you think?" I respond, avoiding her eyes.
She lets a sigh out. "I thought so."
"You were fine with it for months. I spent almost every day with him, and you didn't care."
"That's before I knew you were doing... certain things with him." She blatantly shows her disgust with the way her nose scrunches up.
I can't stop the words from slipping out. "I do a lot of things with him. Feels pretty fucking good, too."
"Get out," she says, pointing to the door.
"Seriously? You're kicking me out?"
"If you're going to say things like that, yes."
"I don't get why you can't just be happy for me. You act like it affects you because you don't get a daughter in law one day, but you're not even considering how you're affecting me." I step past her to go to my room. "I'll leave after I get some stuff."
