Final Chapter
-Wes-
Jaimie was a lot nicer than I expected, considering I didn't deserve it after my... sudden outburst. But yeah, he seems really cool. I can see why Ryland is friends with him. I examined his expressions and body language most of the time he was here, and it didn't seem like he held any animosity toward Ryland for what happened in the past. They even talked about it in front of me, and he acted like he needed it to straighten his act up, like he was grateful for Ryland's actions. It must've worked, though since they released him early for good behavior. I hope he really feels that way. Because I swear if he came back into Ryland's life just for vengeance...
They promised to keep in touch and even shared another hug when he was leaving, to which Jaimie looked at me during it and gave me a wink to tease me one last time. I roll my eyes, making him laugh before he finally leaves out the door.
"So, what'd you think?" Ryland asks, plopping down beside me with an excited look in his eyes. He almost looks like a puppy right now. "He's better than Theo, right?"
I let a laugh out at that. "You're so mean to him."
"It's all jokes. Though Jaimie is a lot calmer than he is."
"It seemed like it."
"He is." He lets a small sigh out. "I'm really glad he's doing better. Did you see how healthy he looked?"
"I did."
He stops, and it looks like he's chewing on the inside of his cheek. "You're not still jealous, right?"
I clench my jaw and hold his stare. "Not if there is nothing to be jealous about."
"There's not, I can assure you."
"Good. I'm going to go warm our food back up now." I move to stand, but his soft grip lands on my wrist.
"Wait."
"What?" He hesitates, making my curiosity worsen. "What is it?"
"I can't help it."
"Help what?"
"I keep thinking about how fucking sexy you were earlier."
Heat easily starts to spread through me. Okay, this conversation took a sudden turn, but I'm definitely not opposed.
"But I hit your friend."
"It's not like you really hurt him. You could've punched him," he points out. "But that's not what did it for me. It was the raw display of jealously on your face and in your voice. Not to mention you did it outside where anyone could see us."
"Oh."
"You really love me, don't you?" he asks.
"No, I just stick around for the free housing," I respond, my voice laced with sarcasm.
The corners of his mouth lift up slightly. "I knew it."
I roll my eyes. "You know I'm kidding."
"Then let me hear it."
"I love you."
"Yeah, that's nice," he mumbles.
I let a laugh out, and only now do I realize how close he's leaning in toward me. I drop my eyes down to his lips before deciding to close the gap. He immediately responds to the kiss, and his hand moves to grip my waist. He deepens it, causing me to lean back against the couch.
"Can we..." he trails off, letting his lips linger against mine. I nod, causing them to slowly rub together before he kisses me again.
Okay, yeah, I might've made a fool of myself, but look where it led me. Maybe jealously isn't always a bad thing.
