**AGA 28**
Nightmare sighs, there's no use arguing with a monster who won't listen. He turns to Cross. "Let's go, Cross. This conversation is going nowhere."
Cross flinches. "Uh, y-yeah, sure, le-let's go."
Nightmare raises a brow. "Something wrong?"
"N-no, I'm fine," Cross takes a deep breath. "Let's just go."
'Lies,' Nightmare thought. Unlike usual, he could sense Cross's emotions in the open. Was there something blocking him before? Or was Cross just really good at hiding emotions? He shook his head. Now's not the time to think about that; one of his own is currently in distress. He put a tentacle on Cross's shoulder, siphoning off some of the negativity. "Are you sure? You seem... troubled."
Cross pushed the appendage off his shoulder. "I'm fine."
Nightmare's eyes widened slightly in shock. The negativity that was surrounding Cross like a thick blanket just disappeared as if it never existed. It wasn't replaced by positivity; it was just... gone. He couldn't sense any other emotion either, as if Cross had gone from being full of negativity to having no emotions, like ink suddenly running out of paint. His eyes squinted, and his suspicions grew. Cross was definitely using something to keep his emotions away. To be able to hide something like that from a god of feelings? Seems like there's more to the new recruit than he thought. He sighed. "I see... then let's go assist the others. The faster we finish, the faster we get back."
"Okay."
'Odd,' Nightmare thought to himself. For someone who was initially insistent on coming, Cross acted like he wanted to get away as soon as possible.
Soon enough, the gang was back in the castle. Wanting to get rid of all traces of the AU, Cross took off his coat and let it drop carelessly to the floor, rushing upstairs to his room, ignoring the others who were calling for him.
"Well, that was weird," Killer shrugged as he flopped down on the couch. "What's he rushing for?"
"Shower... maybe," said Horror. Behind him, Dust had picked up the coat that Cross had dropped.
"Well, he does have that weird thing about staying clean," Killer shrugged. "Maybe the dust was too much for him." He looked up. "Makes me wonder what kind of AU he came from. Must be mostly pacifist if monster dust unnerves him."
"Oh, brother," said Ghost Paps. He floated over Dust's shoulder, looking at the coat. "That's... amazing... how does the free XP have something like that?"
Dust ignored him and walked towards Nightmare. "Boss," he called out, holding the coat towards him. "Look."
Nightmare raised a brow. "Is that Cross's coat?"
Dust nodded and nudged the coat towards him. "Look."
He took the coat and inspected it. "Is something wrong with it?" The fabric sent little fizzes as he moved his hands through it, as if... as if it was reacting to his touches. His brows scrunched together, and he looked closer at the coat. Magic. The coat was covered in magic. It's easy to miss if you don't focus on it, but it's definitely covered in magic. "Is this a magic item?" He turned to Dust.
"Seems like it."
"Huh..." he stared at it in wonder. Magic items are rare due to how hard they are to make. Unlike magic foods that can easily be made with the right magical intent and some healing magic, magic items take a much longer process that requires a lot of magic, science, and a god. As far as he knows, magic items cannot be created by mortal hands. Even he, the god of negativity, cannot make one. Who knows where Dream got his? Ink probably can't make one due to sheer idiocy. Even if he did know how, he probably forgot about it.
The only magic items that exist in this multiverse are Ink's brush, Dream's arrow, and, for some reason, the Fresh parasite has a magical item in the form of a Furby.
If Nightmare finds whoever gave the abomination a magic item with that much power, he would yell at them and call them insane and irresponsible.
And now, in addition to that list, is Cross, who seemed to have a magic coat.
How in the multiverse did he get this thing? What kind of AU was he from? A magic item AU?
The thing about magic items is that you can run a check on them.
So he did just that.

Nightmare dropped the coat in shock, and the others turned to the noise.
"Boss?" Killer tilted his head. "Something wrong?"
Nightmare stared at the item in disbelief. How in the world did Cross have something like this? Where did he get it from? Why? Why in the world did Cross, a regular Sans alternate (he's really starting to question that now), have such a powerful defensive magic item? When he, a god, doesn't?
"Boss?"
Killer's voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he picked up the coat again. "It's nothing." He shook his head and turned to Dust. Among the murder trio, Dust is the only one that managed to retain at least some of his scientific knowledge through the insanity. "Dust, wash up and meet me in the office. The rest of you, get some rest."
Just who exactly is Cross?
