-CHAPTER 12-
— You stared at the girl building a Lego farmhouse next to your seat by the desk. You were going to ask her why she chose there instead of with the other kids, but once you saw the almost scarily energetic game of zombie tag the others were playing, it all made sense.
"You doing okay?" You finally asked, she responded to you in a pretty chirpy tone, pressing a few pieces to the floor of the set, making friendly little stables. "Mhm! Maybe a litttllee nervous for Timothy's birthday party, but I'll buy his FAVORITE present anyways."
"Uh-huh..." You hummed, a small breath leaving you. "Why aren't you playing with the rest of the kids? Not that I mind, I think the farm looks lovely so far."
June was always one of the more energetic kids, if anything, she'd be the MVP of the games, yaknow, if Sun wasn't such a good zombie. Maybe you were bias, but seeing him acting out in the field was pretty damn adorable.
"Just a'thinkin'. Hard to make very grown-up, and mature decisions and crush everyone in tag at the same time." ... "Right."
Okay, how else were you supposed to respond to that? Maybe if you had like 3 extra seconds to think about it—which you didn't—, you'd say something a bit more meaningful.
"Do ya wanna hear my big plan?" She asked, with a giant smile on her face. "Oh.." Was it weird for you to say yes? Okay. . . She'd probably tell you anyways. "-if you want. . . What's your big plan?"
"My mom." She started, her focus was more on finding a certain Lego piece in the box, as she dug through it. "She's a bit weird. . . She doesn't seem like too much of a mother, more like... a farmer babysitter! But- she doesn't judge me." The sentence followed with a click, as June pressed a tiny horse onto the structures' floor, "—I heard dad talking about his job, a bunch. I feel a bit bad, for choosing my mom while he's going through anything," June paused, giving the Lego barn a cute little Sun sticker, right on its doors. "-but that doesn't mean I should change anything, yaknow?" You went quiet, before a breath escaped you. "Yeah. It's his issues..." You agreed, but your mind wasn't exactly on her dad. "..not yours."
"Yeahhhhh!" June agreed happily, "but if me and Timothy were married, we wouldn't be like that at all! I can just tell. We're not dumb." She had a childish pout on, and you hardly responded except for a sigh. You should've expected that. Was she looking for praise on her 'brains'..? You didn't know.
Luckily, after she was done with the Lego set, she tentatively placed it on the desk, before scurrying off to join the game.
You looked back at worker C, a playful scoff following, "Kids having crushes. It's hard to find a way to respond to the little tots." You whispered. Today, since it was a holiday—with frankly only 6 kids in the daycare—you and worker C were the only two working today, you had a pick though, C didn't.
