Chapter 96:

Beep... Beep... Beep...

Ow. Why does everything hurt?

I groaned, trying to move but I couldn't. There was something heavy on me weighing me down.

With a great amount of effort, I peeled my eyes open. Everything was blurry but I could hear soft breathing around me. I blinked my eyes a few times, finally getting them to clear, revealing that I was in the hospital.

I looked down and saw Pogue's head resting on my stomach as he slept but he wasn't the only one. Reid was to my right, asleep with his head on my side, his hand holding mine. Tyler was next to him and Caleb was next to Pogue, both their heads on my legs, asleep as well. Sarah and Kate were asleep on the couch, leaning against each other, cuddled under a blanket. In the chair at the end of the bed, Mr. Perry sat there, his wife in his lap as they held each other and slept.

"Hey," I croaked, my throat feeling dry. I wiggled my fingers causing a small ache to course through me. I tried again, but this time, it didn't feel as bad. Pogue mumbled a little before shooting straight up, panic in his eyes while looking at me.

"You're awake!" he said, tears forming in his eyes.

I gave him a small smile. "Hey big bro," I hoarsely replied. He leaped from his seat, kissing my forehead before shaking everyone awake.

I was showered with kisses from everyone, relief filling the room. Reid looked at me stroking my hair, kissing me gently.

"I'm glad you're awake," Pogue's mom said, tears falling down her face.

"You... you gave us quite the scare," Pogue's dad said, his voice cracking.

Before I had the chance to ask any questions, the doctor came into the room, requesting that everyone leave so that he could check me over. He ran every test, asking me memory questions and if I remembered my name, which I did. After a thorough examination, he said that if everything looked to be okay, I could be released tomorrow and go home.

As if waiting right outside the door, everyone filed back into the room, looking at me anxiously in silence.

"Someone say something," I said, shifting myself up in my hospital bed.

"How do you feel?" Reid asked.

"Sore but other than that, I am okay, I think. Doctor says I can leave tomorrow," I answered truthfully.

"Good," Tyler said, stepping to the side of my bed. "Now tell us, what the hell you were thinking? How could you have done that? Do you know what could have happened?" Tyler reprimanded me.

"It was the only way," I simply explained. "If I told you guys of my plan beforehand, you would have never let me do what I needed to do. I had it all under control... for the most part."

Did I know dying was an outcome? Yes.

Did it matter? Not really. If it meant they lived that's all that matters.

Reid looked at me, his expression hard. "I told you, you aren't allowed to die."

"And I didn't," I smiled innocently. The look he gave me told me that wasn't the case and even then I knew I had been cutting it close. It was short of a miracle that I was still alive. I could still feel the snapping sensation in my chest when Lillian and the others crossed over. It was like they let go of the taut rubber band on their end and it cut into me hard, leaving a permanent mark. But I was okay with that cause it felt like they were truly gone.
