The decision that could end a relationship

Two weeks later
3:30AM
"Derek what are you still doing up?" Alex asked walking into the kitchen
"I would say the same thing" I replied
"Good point do you need any help with anything"
"Actually yes the board wants me to fire one attending from Cardio, General and......Neuro"
"Is that why Meredith won't talk to you"
"Yea because she's worried that I will pick Nelson and I was going to until Meredith pulled off those traumas a couple of days ago and Nelson has been in the background of Meredith's success so she has levelled the playing field again"
"What about Cardio?"
"Russel because I can't fire Yang because it's Cristina Yang she can do anything"
"General?"
"Between O'Malley and Chambers"
"Fire Chambers because he's sloppy and he doesn't take orders and also he's had 4 months of sick leave this year to go to Ibiza"
"Ok then Chambers it is thank you Alex"
"Anything to keep my job boss" he said sitting down as I left the room to go up to bed and Meredith was already asleep so I jumped in beside her.
The next day
I was in my office ready for my first firing situation.
Knock knock
"Come in" I shouted
"Hello Chief Shepherd" George said walking in and sitting down
"So Dr O'Malley I've had to decide between you and Dr Chambers and I'm happy to tell you that you will be staying here at Seattle Grace Mercy West congratulations" I said holding out my hand for him to shake
"Thank you so much sir I won't let you down" he replied shaking my hand
The day went the same telling Cristina that she would be staying and also telling people they can no longer work here until it came to my final person......Meredith.
Knock knock knock
"Come in" I shouted watching her come in with her hands in her lab coat pockets
"Afternoon Dr Grey" I said professionally
"Afternoon Chief Shepherd" she replied
"So Dr Grey I've had to decide between you and Dr Nelson and I can tell you that you ehm.......will be continuing your time here at Seattle Grace Mercy West congratulations" I said toying with her a little
"Oh my god really....thank you Chief Shepherd I will see you later on and may I asked who else is safe?" She asked
"Dr O'Malley and Dr Yang"
"Thank you so much Chief thank you" she said professionally because a board member had walked in half way through telling her.
I just don't want to think about the amount of complaints that are going to come from the three I had to let go.
