chapter fourteen

wisdom teeth

[Tom's POV]

I sat in the waiting room and forced myself to read one of the old magazines that were placed on the small table in the middle of the room. The magazines were crumpled on the edges and the one I was attempting to read had lots of missing pages.

Nic had been with the dentist for one hour, maybe that broken molar was more serious than we thought. I managed to get her in the car as she was refusing to come, dentists are not her favourite thing.

I took another magazine and began to page through it when I hear a familiar voice coming from behind. Then, I knew why Nic didn't want to come, and she didn't tell me.

"Hey man!" It was Nic's ex-boyfriend, "What are you doing here? You okay?"

"Oh, hello. Yes, I'm okay, thanks for asking." I replied. The waiting room was empty, and Miles sat in the chair across from me.

"You're waiting for Nicole, aren't you?"

"Actually, yes. I'm, waiting for her." I gave him a brief smile and returned my gaze at the magazine, pretending to be reading its content, avoiding the chat with him. I never liked that guy, never. Even before Nic told me he had yelled at her.

"I thought I wouldn't see her around-"

"She never thought she'd come back here as well. This was an emergency." I said.

"You're still sharing the flat? That's how it's called now? Sharing the flat with your 'friend'?" I threw the magazine onto the table and checked the time before standing up, "Are you enjoying it?" I scowled.

"I beg your pardon."

"Don't deny it " He stood up, "She's so stupid that she cannot see you're playing with her. What's she expecting, you're an actor! You think that just because you're a so-called actor, you can have any bitch you want?"

"Hey, hey, don't call her like that! You lost her for your own actions you didn't treat her as she deserved."

"Is everything okay?" One of the nurses asked, "Miles?"

"Everything's fine." He muttered and walked away, the nurse looked at him puzzled, so did I. I had no choice but read another magazine while waiting. I didn't even read it, I only pages through it again and again, keeping an eye of every person that'd walk in the surroundings, probably hoping to find Miles ready to punch me or whatever. Another twenty minutes passed when the nurse came back.

"Hiddleston?" She called and I raised my eyes from the old magazine and giving her a smile, "Please come with me." She walked me through the corridors and she opened the door of the room in which Nic was. The dentist was organising his work area.

"Hey." She said.

"Hey." I chuckled, she was under heavy meds, "What happened to you?" I asked and she oly smiled and shrugged.

"She wants her wisdom teeth out." The dentist said.

"She what?"

"I needed to know if you agree with her, um, she's under heavy meds right now, so, it is-"

"Absurd, I know." I said between chuckles.

"Yes, you are her..."

"Friend."

"I see, well, she's got an appointment for this procedure in two weeks, but you should talk to her." He said. I walked towards her and she poked my stomach.

"You look so tall from here." She said and I smiled.

"Nic, you sure you want your wisdom teeth out? Don't you think you have to-"

"No! I want them out now." I snorted, "I just want them out."

"The dentist fixed your broken molar already, we can go home now-"

"I want them out." I couldn't help but laugh.

"Nic, are you seriously crying?" I asked and turned to see the doctor who was containing a smile, "Okay, you'll get what you want, but you'll regret about this." I turned around, "How long is it gonna take?"

"It depends, but it usually takes thirty minutes." The dentist said and I scratched the back of my neck.

"Do it. She's got to do it anyway." Well, one hour had passed when the nurse called me again. I just hoped that Nicole hadn't decided make another teeth extraction.

"Make sure she takes this to ease any pain and keep an eye on her." The dentist said to me and he gave me more medicines and I turned to see her, I had to keep an eye on her, she was sleepy. I couldn't help but smile all the time, she looked funny, "She'll be like this for a while, probably one or two hours. You can take her home." I walked towards her.

"We have to go now, C'mon." I grabbed her arm, "I'll take you home, you have to rest. Thanks for everything doctor." After guiding her to the car, we headed to her flat. The trip was about twenty minutes of no sense chattering, slurred words and awkward questions. We arrived at her place and I asked her for the keys.

"What keys?" She asked.

"Forget it. I'll take the spare key." I felt for it over the door frame and inserted it in the lock and we walked in, "Okay, go to bed or lie down in the couch at least, you have to rest. Why on earth did you agree to get your wisdom teeth removed?" I walked her to the couch and she sat down.

"I wanted to." And I had to take care of her until the medicine effects passed.
