Teachings of Life

From my first breath, my first glimpse of light,

You were there, your eyes shining bright.

I can only imagine the pride you held,

And how your heart must have swelled.

As I grew up before your eyes

You never faltered to be wise.

Compassion and patience you taught me

That sometimes I needed it in who I was to be.

Your confidence and courage like a contagious fire,

These traits I deeply admire.

You've taught me to stay strong and fight through the day

You wouldn't let me suffer, but taught me to take the pain

Hard work is the quick way to success

You've always taught me to do my very best.

To try and be honest is the key

The basic principle of integrity.

A little bit of faith to keep you going strong

Hope and belief are never wrong.

To always stay optimistic in the worst time,

Because who knows how high you'll climb?

To stay determined and proud in everything I do

To never give up and to always stay true.

To stay upon the enlightened path

For if I make a wrong turn I must deal with the aftermath.

There is never a wrong time for a little bit of fun

Just enough humor to make you laugh until the day is done.

Finally, you've taught me how to love

No matter if life gets tough.

For every lesson of life and bestowed skill,

You have taught me how to live as I do still.

For I have become my own individual for which I am unique,

And for that dear father I thank you by these words I speak.
