Well, this isn't strictly Canadian, but I thought because I mentioned it, I might as well expand on it, the "ough" combo.
                        ----------

The letter combination "ough" is probably one of the weirdest things for people with English as a second language to get down. Why? Because "ough" is used to make many different sounds, as I will show. Words that it makes the same sound are put side by side.

Doughnut- (doh-nut), Though- (th-oh)
Hiccough- (hick-up)
Plough- (pl-ow), Bough- (b-ow)
Through- (th-roo)
Thorough- (thur-row)
Cough- (caw-f), Thought- (thaw-t), Bought, (b-aw-t)
Rough- (ruf), Tough-(tuf)
Slough- (slew)

I think that's all of them. You see, that makes for a total of 8 different sounds "ough" can make. I won't blame you if you are thinking "who in their right mind decided to do this?".
