The police left with my dad and I could breathe again. “I can’t thank you guys enough.” I said smiling at them gratefully. “It’s no problem sweetie.” Soda said leaning against the wall giving me a warm grin. I think my heart flipped with he called me sweetie. “But there is one problem.” Steve said. “Oh, and what’s that?” I smirked. “We don’t know your name.” They all said in unison. I avoided eye contact with Ponyboy because I knew that I would stare if I looked at his beautiful features. “My name’s Jennie. You’re turn.” I said and did a fancy bow. “I’m Sodapop but everyone calls me Soda and this is my best pal Steve and that’s my brother Ponyboy.” Soda said and I smiled. “Oh, I met your brother yesterday at the park and some guy named Two-Bit.” “He’s one of our gang.” Steve exclaimed. I nodded and I walked outside Ponyboy held the other two back for a minute. They came out a minute later and Soda and Steve were smirking. We watched the cars drive by and drank Coke. “So have you lived here long, Jennie, I have never seen you around before?” Soda asked and put his arm around my shoulder. I looked at him and nodded, “Yea, lived here the whole fifteen years I’ve been alive, well it will be fifteen in December. My brother has just been really overprotective of me and wouldn’t even let me meet his friends. I’m also home schooled so that could also be why you have never seen me.” I looked back to the street and saw another police car drive by from the direction of my house and I saw my mother in the back seat. I swore I could have seen a smirk on her face. “Was she just smirking?” Soda asked. “You saw it too.” Steve said and I looked at them and Pony nodded agreeing with them. I felt the color drain from my face. “What’s wrong, Jennie?” Pony asked standing in front of me.  “My brother.” I whispered in disbelief. “That dumb fucking bitch went after my brother.” I screamed jumping up and throwing my empty Coke bottle at the wall. The others looked surprised but I just started running towards my house. I could hear them following me. I ran faster than I did to get away from my dad. I rounded the corner and I saw a guy with white blond hair walking down the street. He looked like Dallas Winston but I wasn’t paying attention. “Move!” I shouted shoving him into a brick wall. “Dumb broad.” I heard him say. If it was any other time I would have turned around and punched him in the face but I had to get to Johnny. I heard somebody stop and say something and then I heard another set of footsteps added. I was just a block away from my house; I could see it from where I was. I forced myself to take longer strides and run faster. When I got in front of the house I heard everyone else stop as I charged inside. “Johnny!” I shouted and the others joined me. There was a lot of blood and a bloody knife on the floor. I ran upstairs to make sure. “Johnny.” I shouted again and thought I heard something from the basement. I knew this house had a basement, but I didn’t know where the door to it was. I ran into our parent’s room and saw that the bed was moved and there was a hatch underneath it. “I’m such an idiot.” I said and I knew the others were behind me. I tried to lift it up but I couldn’t. “This isn’t the best method to get this open but whatever.” I said and stood next to it and slammed my foot down onto the wood. It broke and crashed onto the concert. I sat on the ledge and held onto the other side and swung down so I was hanging. I let go and landed on the floor perfectly. I flicked on the light and the other four guys jumped down. It was pretty big basement with a lot of rooms and closets. “Johnny.” I said loudly but I wasn’t shouting. “Jennie, in here.” Johnny shouted and I looked around it sounded like it was coming from every room. “Where, there are fucking a million doors?” I said looking at every door to try and pinpoint his voice. “Just start looking in each room and hurry I’m losing an awful lot of blood.” He said and sounded pained. I rushed around the room along with the others. “He’s not in any of these rooms so that only leaves this one.” The one that looked like Dallas said pointing to the last door. “Johnny, are you in here?” I asked going up to the door. “Yea, get it open Jen. I’m gonna pass out.” Johnny said and I heard his voice fade at the end. I tried the knob but it was locked. “Get back.” I warned and took a step away from the door. With all my strength I kicked the door down and stormed in. I scanned the room frantically for my brother. I spotted him in the corner. He looked at us and smiled. I rushed to him, looking at the deep cut on his arm. I wrapped my hands around it to stop the bleeding. “You’re gonna be okay Johnny.” I said and looked at him. He reached up with his other arm and whipped a tear off my cheek. All I thought was, He can’t die. Johnny has to live. He can’t die. “Jennie, you don’t have to try to save me. It is no use.” He said and I shook my head violently. “No!” I protested, “You can’t die.” Johnny’s body went limp and his eyes closed. “Call an ambulance!” I demanded and looked at them. “Now!” I shouted frantically and began to cry.
