When we got back to the house Pony and I raced inside and grabbed our boards, but before we could run out the door Darry stopped us. “You guys gotta eat something before you go.” He said and I sighed and followed Pony to the kitchen. We quickly made sandwiches and ate them. “Okay meet us at the barn around four.” I said and now Johnny stopped us. “Do either one of you have a blade on you?” He asked and I groaned and looked at the ceiling. “Fine, I’ll go get mine.” I said and quickly grabbed it from my room. “Now we’re leaving, and no one’s going to stop us.” I said and ran out of the house before anyone else could stop us. Ponyboy followed and we walked down the side walk for a little while I talked. “Okay so you already know how to skateboard basically so that’s already easy. Now what you want to work on is doing tricks without breaking speed a lot. It’s really easy if you think about it. The basic tricks are a kick flip, grid, and a jump and there are many harder variations of those and I’m still working on a lot of them. Right now we’re heading to this skate park I know and there probably won’t be anyone there since there is snow on the ground.” I said and Pony listened the entire time. “Do you wanna skate there?” He asked and I nodded. “Now this is how you get on your board without doing it the really slow and boring way, which a lot of beginners do and it looks really stupid if you want to show someone a cool trick.” I said and with and running start and I stepped on my board without breaking stride. A few feet down I popped a wheelie and spun around to face him. “Now you try.” I said and even though it was a little sloppy he got it down. He stopped the way I did next to me. “Good job also about stopping; never put your foot on the ground if you don’t have to cause you could end up hurting yourself.” I explained and he nodded. Pony held out his hand and smiled. “Shall we?” He asked and I took his hand. “We shall.” I said and we both started to the skate park. When we got there I was right no one was there. I started teaching Pony all the basic tricks and he got pretty good and his take off got better too. I told him what to do if he messed up on the ramp doing a trick. “Do some tricks on the ramp?” Pony asked and I shook my head. “No, Pony, we have to go to the barn soon.” I said and gave me puppy dog eyes. “For me?” He asked. I sighed then nodded, “But only this once.” I went over and climbed on top of the bigger ramp there and skated down and launching off the other side and came back down to go off the other side I just came from. It was going good until I lost my balance as I launched off the third time and my board lost contact with my feet. “Shit.” I cursed to myself as I began to fall. I turned so I wouldn’t get hurt when I landed but I’ll tell you when my knees hit that metal it hurt a lot. I heard someone rush over to me and I looked up and it wasn’t Pony. It was Oakland; he practically ran the skate park. If he didn’t want you there, you left. “Hey, Jen, I saw that fall. You okay?” He asked helping me stand with his hands on my waist and he left them there. Pony came running over. “Who are you?” Pony asked coldly as he approached us. “Oakland, and you?” Oakland replied. “Her boyfriend.” Pony replied and pointed at me. “This true Jen?” Oakland asked and looked down at me. “Yes, he’s my boyfriend.” I stated simply. “Pal, that should be a hint to get your hands off my girl.” Pony said and stepped up to him and poked Oakland in the chest. “Oh yea, and what if I don’t want to?” Oakland challenged and I saw Pony balled up his fists. His eyes were full of anger. Oakland finally did let go but only after Ponyboy punched him square in the face knocking him out. I looked at Oakland then to Pony who was looking at me. “I’m sorry, Jen, that you had to see that.” He said and looked down. “Pony it’s okay, you know what he would have done if you weren’t here? Well the same thing that Soc was going to do to me. That’s why I don’t usually come here when Oakland’s here, because of that reason.” I said and he looked at me. “My only question is why? Why didn’t you tell him to let go of you?” Pony asked. “Because I’m afraid of him, Pony, it’s not that I didn’t want him to let go, I did. He’s just so unpredictable and dangerous.” I said and Pony hugged me. “I’m not going to let anyone ever hurt you again.” He whispered in my ear. I hugged him back and nuzzled my face into his chest. We let go and I looked around for my board and we went over to pick it up. “Wait, you’ve only had that skate board for ten days and never came here with it. How did you know about him and this park?” Pony asked. “Shaun taught me how to skate board here and I used to borrow one of his old boards. Shaun introduced me to Oakland, when I started coming here regularly.” I said and he nodded. “What would happen when you came here alone and Oakland was here?” Pony asked and I could tell that he was deciding whether he needed to hurt Oakland more than he already did. I rolled my eyes, “The other guys here knew that Oakland was out for me and would always be around me at all time, and one of them usually walked me out of the park and out of his sight.” Pony nodded, “Come on, let’s go before he wakes up and tries to attack me.” And we began to walk towards to entrance. I sighed, “Yea, about that. He wouldn’t go after you. He would go after me.” Pony gave me a confused look. “Oakland is the type of person who doesn’t directly go after his enemy, he goes for their weakness and obviously I’m yours so yea……” I said and trailed off at the end. Pony wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me against him. “I wouldn’t let him get you no matter how big and tough he is, I know someone tougher. The entire gang, everyone would be out for him if he went after you.” He said and I blushed and smiled at the ground. Pony and I reached the entrance when three guys walked in. “Hey Jen and random guy we don’t know.” Corbin said. They were Oakland’s posy, Corbin, Steel, and Zander. Even though they were Oakland’s right hand guys they would distract him from me in the park while I was there. “Corbin, Steel, Zander, this is my boyfriend, Pony. Pony these are Oakland’s friends, Corbin, Steel, and Zander.” I said and pointed to each of them. Pony’s eyes turned cold when he heard they were his friends. “Relax, Pony, they help me and keep Oakland away from me while I’m here.” I said and he looked at me and relaxed. “Oakland’s just a plain jackass. If he ever gets arrested for a really long time, you’re going to be the new “leader” of the skate park.” Steel said and pointed at me. “Thanks guys, before we leave though, Oakland’s knocked out on the big ramp.” I said and they were all amused. “Let me guess, he knocked him out.” Zander said and pointed to Pony but it wasn’t in a sarcastic way. “Yea, you know how he is. I fell while I was doing some tricks and he came over and helped me up, Pony didn’t like it, punched Oakland in the face and he was out.” I explained. They laughed and Corbin gave Pony a fist bump. “Nice man, we’ll take him back to his place. See you guys later, Merry Christmas.” Corbin said and they began to walk towards where Oakland was. “I thought you said you only had one friend?” Pony asked as we walked down the sidewalk. “I wouldn’t really call them friends, more like buddies, and same goes for the rest of the guys there.” I said and he nodded. “I’ll race you to the barn.” Pony smirked. “Oh, you’re on.” I said and put my board in my right hand. “Go!” I shouted and we took off. We were neck and neck for almost the entire way but as the barn came into sight I saw the gang and they could tell we were racing as we got closer and began cheering for either of us. I pushed ahead and skidded to a stop next to the gang and crossed my arms as Pony joined me. “I won.” I said simply. “I let you win.” Pony said and I rolled my eye. “Whatever helps you sleep at night.” I said and now it was his turn to roll his eyes. “Doesn’t the loser get a kiss?” He asked and I shrugged and kissed him on the cheek. “Okay, love birds, come on, I want to show you something.” Soda said and dragged us down the aisle.
