Pony came out into the living room a few seconds after Soda and sat next to me on the couch. “Come on Darry when can we open the gifts?” Soda whined. “When everyone’s ready.” Darry said. “Please…” Soda begged. “Come on Darry, let’s just open them up to shut him up.” I said and pointed at Soda. “Awe, come on Jen-Jen, you know you love me.” He said and sat next to me giving me a bone crushing hug. “Don’t push it, Soda.” I said and he pouted and crossed his arms and looked at the ground. I tackled him in a hug, “Of course I love you Soda, you’re my snowfall buddy.” I said and the gang laughed at us. He hugged me back, “The proper term is best friend.” I laughed, “Yea, I have like a thousand best friends.” “Alright, let’s open presents.” Soda said and nearly jumped in his seat. We all laughed at his childness. One at a time we each opened a gift. First was Johnny. He got the comb and hair grease from me, a bedroom from the rest of the gang, and Darry got Johnny and I con joined gift. It was legal guardian papers. It meant that he was our guardian until Johnny was eighteen and then he was my legal guardian. I ran up to him and gave him a hug. “Thank you so much Darry.” I said as he hugged me back. I sat back down and we now did Dally’s gifts. He got a whole case of really good expensive cigs from the Curtis boys, a new lighter necklace from Johnny, and a wallet with a chain from Two-Bit and Steve. That caused me to laugh. “Why you laughing Jennie?” Two-Bit asked. “You’ll see later.” I said and then Dal opened his gift from me and pulled it out. “Damn, Jen, where’d you find one of these? I’ve been looking all over but they’re all too small for me.” He asked taking off his old one and putting it on. “It was the last one that big.” I said and smiled. “Thanks, kid.” He said and came over and gave me a hug. The gang all looked at him weird. “None of you saw anything.” He said pointing at them. I laughed, as Darry now opened his gifts. He got a new tool belt from Johnny and Dal, a magnetic clip to attach to the belt to hold nails and stuff like that, the new work boots from me, and Pony and Soda gave him a necklace that looked like it belonged to a woman. “How did you guys find this? She was wearing it when she died, in the crash.” He asked and I could see a tear in his eye. “I went down to the police station and asked for it. Then Pony went to the jeweler and had it cleaned and polished.” Soda said and I now knew it was a necklace his mom must have owned. “I gave this to her, when I was ten. She never took it off, not even once for a second.” He said and I went to look at it. It was a beautiful necklace. It had a solid gold heart on the chain engraved with the words, I love you Mom, I looked on the other side and Love Dar-Bear was engraved. It brought tears to my eyes that he got her something like that. “That’s so sweet.” I said and wiped a tear off my cheek. Ponyboy pulled me into his lap and wiped the tears off my cheek and kissed me lightly on the lips. Once that emotion fest was over Two-Bit opened his presents. He laughed when he opened the wallet with a chain from me. “Now I know why you laughed.” He said and ruffled my hair. Dally gave him an Elvis record, he got a Mickey Mouse poster from Johnny and Pony, Darry gave him a chocolate cake, and Steve and Soda gave him some beer. Now it was Steve’s turn to open presents. Dal and Johnny gave him a set of wrenches, I gave him the book and a couple other tools, the Curtis boys got him a big tool box for everything at the DX, and Two-Bit gave him a set of fuzzy dice. “You can put them on the mirror of your car, when you get one.” He said and we all cracked up laughing. Steve glared at him but soon gave in and laughed too. Next were Soda’s gifts. Johnny, Two-Bit and Steve gave him a cook book for terrible cooks which made Soda laugh. We all knew he couldn’t cook to save his life. Pony and Darry gave him a framed picture of their last family photo with their parents. “Awe, thanks guys. I don’t think I could’ve asked for better brothers.” He said and hugged them both at the same time. Dal and I looked at each other and silently agreed to not say anything. Now it was time for Pony to open his gifts. He opened the gift from Dally, Steve, and Two-Bit first. It was a big set of pocket knives and switchblades. He gave them a confused look. “Johnny told us that Jennie will probably forget her blade when you guys go on dates so we got you a set so you can protect her from the Socs.” Dal explained. I blushed and looked at him. He smiled at me. “Thanks, guys. I’m sure I’ll use them.” Pony got a sketchbook and pencils from Soda. “Thanks, Soda, I wanted to start drawing again.” He said and looked at his brother. “You can draw, since when. I never knew that.” I said and placed my hands on my hips. “Yea, I used to draw all the time until, you know what happened.” He explained and flashed his eyes over to my brother   quickly and I knew he meant the killing and everything else. Darry and Johnny both got him books, Moby Dick from Darry and a big book of Shakespeare’s Classics from Johnny. Now it was mine. I was really excited for him to open it. Just to annoy me he took his time opening it and smirked at me. “Come on Pony, we have some where to be after this.” I said and crossed my arms. “Where?” Soda asked. “Only Dal, Johnny, Pony, and I know it’s a surprise.” I said and smiled as he pouted. Pony pulled his skateboard out of the bag and looked at it. “Now, we’re skateboarding buddies.” He said remembering what I said back on my birthday. I laughed and he turned it over to look at the bottom. On his I had all the colors of the sunset painted in swirls and blends to almost look like a sunset. “Oh, Jennie, you didn’t have to get me this. This must have cost a fortune.” Pony said looking up at me. “It wasn’t that much. I wanted to get you all a little something.” I said and looked at everyone. “A little something, everyone in this room got something expensive from you.” Johnny said and I shrugged. “So, I like to spoil people.” He rolled his eyes. “Okay now it’s time for Jennie to open her presents.” Darry announced and handed me one, it was from Soda. I ripped off the paper to reveal a frame with the words ‘Best Friends’ along the top and a picture of us out in the snow was inside. “Awe, thanks Soda. I’ll hang it in my room.” I said and gave him a side hug. “You’re welcome Jen-Jen.” Soda said hugging me back. I then opened Dal’s. He also got me a new leather jacket. “Thanks, Dally. I need a new one. My other one is so old and beat up.” I exclaimed and he smiled. Then Darry handed me bag that said To Jennie, From Steve I opened it up and found a baseball bat and glove inside. “When it gets warmer I’m gonna teach ya’ how to play baseball.” He said and I smiled. “Cool, I know how to play, just about every other sport, except that.” I said and thought for a minute. The bat reminded me of my dream from last night a little but only Johnny could see it, so I didn’t act like anything was wrong. I then opened my gift from Two-Bit to find a Mickey Mouse sweater. “This is cute; you actually have a taste in fashion. I’m so proud.” I said and placed a hand over my heart. Everyone laughed and Darry handed me my next present. This one was from Ponyboy. He smiled as I looked up at him. “Go ahead, open it.” He encouraged and so I did. It was light blue and rolled up so it looked like a tube right now. I unrolled it to reveal that it was a beanie; I didn’t think anything really special of it, except for the fact Pony gave it to me, until I turned it over to see stitching on the brim. “Forever and always, signed Pony.” I read out loud and looked him in the eyes. I could feel tears begin to form in my eyes. “It means that I will always love you even if we ever break up.” He said and I smiled before quickly leaning over and kissing him on the lips. I pulled back before Darry grabbed the last one. “Okay, this one’s from Johnny, Jen.” He said and handed me a small candy cane bag that felt fairly light. I opened it up and took out some tissue paper. I saw a small stuffed giraffe inside. I pulled it out and realized that it was the same one our grandmother gave me right before she died. “You found it.” I said in disbelief. “Yea, it was down in the basement. I found it when I was waiting for someone to find me.” Johnny said. It still looked brand new, the stitching of my name across the front wasn’t unthreaded or ripped, and it was clean with absolutely no dust on it. “What happened?” Soda asked. Johnny let me explain. “Our grandmother gave me this right before she passed away at the hospital when I was four. I loved this thing more than anything else because it proved to me that there was an adult out there that wouldn’t hurt Johnny or me. I slept with it every night and carried it around a lot, but one day I woke up and it wasn’t next to me. I looked everywhere for it but I never found it so I knew that our parents had taken it. Johnny told me that he would find it, and he did, it was ten years later but he still found it.” I said and cracked a smile at my brother who cracked one back. Pony wrapped his arm around my shoulder and rubbed my arm soothingly. We cleaned up all the paper and Darry was getting a few things done so he could start cooking Christmas dinner for us. “Okay, everyone, we are leaving for a surprise in about ten minutes so do whatever you need to do before that.” I announced and Pony, Dal, Johnny, and I all smirked at each other. I looked around and noticed Soda wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I walked over to the door and saw him sitting out in the cold. I walked out and leaned against the house. “What are you doing out here?” I asked. He sighed, “It’s nothing important. Go back inside; it’s too cold out here.” I went and sat down on the porch steps next to him. “Soda I know when something is wrong, now tell me.” I said looking at him. I pulled my sweater tighter around my body to keep me warm. Soda sighed again, “This is going to sound really selfish but… it’s just, you got something for everyone else and didn’t get me nothing. I just feel a little left out.” I chuckled and smiled at him, “I got you something, Sodapop, I would never forget you.” “What is it?” He asked smiling back. “You’ll find out soon enough.” I smirked, I knew the suspense was already killing him. “How will you know if I like it then?” He was trying to trick me into telling him. “Just trust me; I know you’ll like it.” I said and got up and walked back towards the door, “Come on Soda, it’s too cold out to be sitting out here.” He got up and walked inside with me.
