The deafening sound of the rebel alarm rips me out of my dreams.
Maxon hurries over to the wall and opens the hidden door. I hurry over and we go in, closing the door.
He grabs my arm and starts pulling me quickly down the stairs. I struggle to keep up but I'm to scared to say anything.
Once we're close to the bottom I trip and nearly fall on my face. Maxon uses the one arm he was holding to keep me up a bit, but I hit my knee hard on the stair.
"Ow!" I cry.
"America!"
"I'm alright..."
He picks me up and carries me the rest of the way down.
A maid was already there with the kids and two guards.
Maxon puts me on one of the four cots and grabs a blanket.
The kids come over and sit next to me. I hug the both of them.
Eadlyn starts crying. I kiss her forehead.
I keep both of my arms wrapped around my kids, holding them close and tight to try to comfort them as Maxon checks my knee.
"I think it's just bruised. Is it sore?"
"Yeah a little. I'm alright."
I have the kids lay down and I put the blanket on them.
The guards inform us that it's three in the morning and that the rebels are being dealt with.
Maxon and I lay facing each other on the cot by the kids to try to rest. That plan doesn't work so we just talk.
"I'm surprised they got her out of that butterfly costume," I say.
"I know. She loves it," he replies.
"Maybe a little to much."
"Remember when you were a butterfly for Halloween?" he asks with a smile.
"Oh I remember. We were the worst couple paring ever."
"What do you mean?"
"A butterfly and a pirate. They don't match."
"Well we weren't supposed to match then."
"Doesn't mean it was a good couples costume."
"True. Either way you were breath taking then. You still are of course. There's no changing that."
"That was an amazing night."
"It was."
"It was also painful in several ways."
"What would those be?"
"Well, first off, your stubble hurt against my cheeks," I tease.
"Oh shush."
"That Marlee and Carter got caught."
"That's true. They deserved to be happy and be together. And to not get punished for pursuing their happiness."
"And I hated seeing you dance with all the other girls for so long."
"Oh. Someone was jealous."
"Duh. I thought you hated me or something since you ignored me practically the entire night until the end.
"Best for last," he says, flashing his gorgeous grin.
I smile and snuggle close to him. I end up falling asleep against his warm body that fights the chill.

"Mommy, we can go now," Ahren says, waking me up.
Maxon is talking to a guard and holding Eadlyn. I yawn and stretch, sitting up. Ahren hugs me and I hug him back.
"I love you mommy."
"I love you too Ahren. I always will."
I pick him up and go over to Maxon.
We all go upstairs and head to lunch.
It's a late lunch, but a well needed one.
