Nina's POV
After being left alone, I sat back down and thought about what I should be doing. Instead of acting like a sane person, I got up and walked back to the garden to see how Ian was doing. He just seemed to have that effect on me.
I always had to know how he was no matter what was going on.
Once I reached the entry way to the garden, I looked outside and saw nothing but the miniature oak tree and a couple holding hands as they strolled around the trees and bushes.
Ian was gone.
Of course he was. Why would he sit there? It's not like he knew I was coming back for him. He never seemed to know what I was thinking.
I turned around sadly and almost fell backward.
I stepped one foot back but toppled a little, only gaining balance when Ian wrapped his arm around my waist. He pulled me towards him and held me up.
I shrugged out of his grasp and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Who were you looking for?"
"No one," I lied. "I was just checking if anyone was in the garden. I wanted to be alone for a while."
"That's not what it seemed like when Derek Hough was here," he answered, shoving his phone back in his pocket.
"You saw that?" I asked. He shrugged passively and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Not that hard to miss," he sighed. "You do know that you were right in the middle of the lobby. It wasn't exactly discreet."
"Why do you care anyway?" I grunted, narrowing my eyes at him.
He groaned and untangled his hands from each other, to reach out and touch me. Before he did, he thought better of it and held back his hand.
"How did you shift this quickly?" he asked me. "This morning, you were so sweet, so incredibly back to being my Nina. What happened?"
"Oh, I don't know Ian," I grunted. "I guess hearing about your 'romantic night' from your ex-girlfriend didn't exactly make me a happy camper."
"Nina, it's not like-."
"It's not like what?" I sighed. "Not like I thought you spent all that time in the same hell I did?"
"Nina..."
"No, Ian!" I groaned. "I don't need you to lie to me and tell me that you went through everything I did. I genuinely believed you, until poof, out of nowhere, you're making out with your ex-girlfriend."
"I didn't kiss her!" he practically yelled.
"What?"
"I didn't kiss Nicky!" he sighed, his face tensing up. "I couldn't."
"Then what was she talking about?"
"I don't know, Nina," he said. "Nothing happened. I promise."
"And you expect me to just believe you?"
"Yes!" he sighed, placing his hands on my arms. "Yes! Believe me. Just, believe me."
"I can't," I sighed.
His hands slid down my arms, to hold my hands. "Nina..."
I snatched my hands away. "Ian, I just can't right now," I said.
