Ian's POV
"Ian," I heard someone whisper right next to me. "Ian? Hey, wake up."
I tried to open my eyes, only to see a shining, bright light between the slits I could open. I almost shot up.
"Hi baby..." Nina whispered, leaning close to me. "Wake up."
She's on her knees, resting next to me, with her hair hanging right in front of me. I blinked my eyes a couple of times and smiled, gently grabbing Nina's face in my hands.
She laughed and leaned closer to me, her lips a couple of inches away from mine. "Hi babe," she sighed. "Hi."
I smirked and placed my other hand on the other side of her face. I pulled her lips down on mine and kissed her heavily, trying to keep myself from crying.
She broke off and laughed. "Missed me that much, huh?"
"I thought I was never going to see you again," I whispered, touching her nose to mine. I smoothed her hair down with my hands and kissed her on both cheeks. I slid down my hands to her neck, her shoulders, her arms, and finally her hands. I kissed each of them and pulled her again, hugging her close to me.
"Of course you'd see me again," she whispered. "Didn't I say I would never leave you? I keep my word, Ian."
"God, I love you so much," I whispered. "I love you so much."
"Ian, Ian calm down," she said. "I'm okay. It's not like I died or anything."
I frowned. "Right, right," I said. "Of course not."
"Oh, and Happy Birthday baby!"
"Wait, what?"
"Happy 35th birthday!" she yelled. "What, do you think I forgot?"
35th?
My 35th birthday was a few days ago.
Before she left for Bulgaria on that plane. Why was she joking around like this?
"Nina, it's not my birthday," I said. "Stop playing."
"What do you mean it's not your birthday?" she asked, frowning childishly. "It's December 8, baby. You know you can't stop yourself from getting older."
"Nina, seriously," I whispered. "My birthday was a few days ago, remember? You even made that huge public display of asking me to be yours again!"
"What are you talking about?" she laughed. "Is that the birthday present you wanted? Because if it is, you know I'm not ready for that yet."
"Nina!" I yelled, sitting up. I took her by the arms and shook her gently. "Stop playing with me, okay? My birthday was a few days ago. You left for Bulgaria yesterday! For the movie?"
Her face fell and she looked away. "How did you know about that?" she asked accusingly. "Ian, I was going to tell you over your birthday dinner."
I bit my lip angrily again. "Babe," I said. "You left yesterday! I chased after you and we said our 'see you later's'. Then, a couple of hours later, the news showed that your flight crashed! Baby... please tell me that wasn't real."
"Yesterday? Flight crashed? Babe," she sighed. "I'm right here. I haven't even left yet."
"But, but..."
