Ian's POV
February 14, 2013. Valentine's Day.
"Well, you should've thought about that before you even talked to her, Ian!" Nina yelled loudly.
"I didn't know you were going to be THIS upset, Neens," I groaned. "It was just a phone call greeting, nothing else!"
"Right," she sighed, turning away from me. She grabbed her bag from the chair and shrugged on her cardigan. She flipped her hair off of her shoulder and faced me. "Just call me when you have the time. I don't want to interfere with your plans with your ex."
She turned around to walk out of the room, but I grabbed her arm. "Nina," I sighed. "We've been fighting about this for a few weeks now! Over the same thing, again and again. I'm just sick of it."
"And I'm sick of being second string to your ex-girlfriend-turned-bestfriend, Ian!" she yelled. She snatched her arm away and walked towards the door. She opened it hesitantly and stepped outside, before turning back to say, "Happy Valentine's Day."
She closed the door and disappeared.
I sighed and slumped my shoulders, sitting down on my couch. I buried my face in my hands and grabbed my cell phone.
On the first ring, I immediately said, "My house. Need to talk. NOW."
"We're on our way."
---
Paul's car parked slowly in front of my house and he stepped out of the Driver's Seat. He looked up and waved at me briefly, before jogging to the other side to open Torrey's door for her. She stepped out and kissed him on the cheek, before turning around to smile at me and wave too.
Torrey opened the back door and pulled out a paper bag and a bottle of champagne. She smiled at me and I tried my best to smile back. Paul leaned over the back seat and retrieved what looked like a Domino's Pizza Box.
I waved back and watched as they held hands tightly and walked to my front door. They opened it, all at once and burst through the door with uneasy cheesiness.
"Ian babe, we're here!" Torrey yelled, running towards me. She hugged me tightly and kissed me on the cheek. She set down her paper bag and walked to the kitchen to open the champagne bottle.
"Hey bud," Paul sighed, walking over to give me the one-arm bro hug thing. "What went on?"
I groaned and walked to the kitchen to grab three glasses and some paper napkins for the pizza. Paul grabbed a plate and opened the paper bag. It was grilled salmon and minced pie, probably whipped up by Torrey herself.
I got three forks and set everything down on the table. Torrey poured us full glasses of champagne and Paul opened the pizza box. He sat in front of me and pulled Torrey to sit next to him. She cleared her throat and Paul let go of her hand.
"You don't have to play all 'not together' thing for me guys, it's honestly irritating," I sighed. "You can actually act all lovey-dovey and it would make me feel better."
Paul rolled his eyes and handed me a glass. "Just tell us what happened," he said.
"Nina and I fought," I said, taking the glass. I took a slice of pizza and bit down on it angrily. "Again."
Torrey looked at me sympathetically and said, "We know, hon. There wouldn't be any reason for you to ask us to come over here. We want to know what happened."
