Zoey's POV
We clean up after dinner.
Right as Emery and I are about to go up to my room, my mom stops us.

"Wait you two," she says, right as we're walking up the stairs, hand in hand.
"Yes Mom," I say.
"Emery, do you mind if I talk to my daughter alone for a few minutes?" my mom asks Emery.
"She's all yours," he says, letting go of my hand.
I look at him and mouth 'I hate you'.
He laughs and goes into the kitchen to talk to Ricky.
My mom leads me into the den and sits down.
"So," I say, wondering what she wants to talk about.
"The boy that has loved you since you were four years old has finally told you, and all you have to say is 'so'," my mom exclaims.
I smile and look down.
"Zoey," my mom exclaims again.
"What do you want me to say Mom?" I ask.
"Tell me how it happened," she asks.
"Well, we got into a fight the other day. Then Ricky brought me to the park this morning, and Emery was there. He sang an incredible song he wrote for me and asked me to be his girlfriend," I say, blushing.
My mom gushes over my story and says, "That is so cute!"
I just smile.
There's a brief silence, but then my mom says, "What are you doing still sitting here? Go. Your boyfriend is waiting."
"Thanks Mom," I say, tackling her with a hug.

I walk out of the den and into the kitchen to see Emery standing by himself, with his back facing me.
I approach him, without saying a word. I slide my arms under his and hug him from behind.

"Hey," I whisper in his ear.
He shutters.
He turns around and says, "You know you really shouldn't do that to me."
"Or what?" I say, making our faces closer than a centimeter apart.
He laughs and all of a sudden picks me up and runs up the stairs, with me laughing and squealing the whole way.
We reach my room and he shuts the door, throwing me on the bed. He climbs onto the bed and hovers me.
"Maybe I should do that more often," I say.
He looks at me and says, "Actually, you shouldn't. I can't breathe."
We both break out in laughter.
He lays down next to me, and I turn to him.
"So, what was your talk with your mom about?" he asks.
"That's confidential," I say, pushing on his chest.
He looks at me with an 'are you serious' look.
I smile up at him.
"You're just gonna smile at me?" he says.
I nod.
He takes in a deep breath. "You kill me Zoey," he says, putting of of his arms on my waist, pulling me closer to him.
I don't do anything but look at his hand on my waist.
"Is this okay?" he asks, lifting his hand.
I put my hand on his to keep it on my waist and say, "It's perfect. It's just so different now than before somehow."
I look back up at him, and he pulls me closer to him.
I can't hold my smile back, which makes him smile even bigger.
I put one of my arms around his neck as he pulls us as close as physically possible.
He tilts his head down lower, making our lips almost touch.
"A good different or a bad different?" he asks me.
I swallow loudly and say, "Definitely a good different."
He sinks his lips onto mine, and I immediately kiss him back.
He licks my bottom lip, and I open my mouth enough for his tongue to slide in. Our tongues battle for dominance, but he obviously wins.
I reach my hands up into his hair and pull on it gently.
We both pull away, and he hugs me.
"I love you," he says.
"I love you too," I say, hugging him back.
We stay there for a while, enjoying the moment.
"I love this," he says, genuinely.
"Me too," I say, hugging him tighter.

We release from our hug and lay next to each other, with our hands intertwined and my head on his shoulder.

"Zoey," he says.
I look at him.
"I think I have to go home," he says.
"I guess you should," I tell him, now looking at our hands.
"I would stay, but I don't want your parents getting the wrong idea," he says, lifting my chin to look at him.
"I guess you're right," I say, as he kisses my forehead.

We head downstairs to see my parents and Ricky talking. Mom looks almost as excited as she did when she was talking to me. They must be asking Ricky about Emery and I.

"Emery's going home," I say, making all of them look at us.
My mom looks at us with a smile.
"Bye Em," Ricky says, waving.
"Bye Emery," my dad says with a smile.
Emery waves to them, and I lead him outside.
I close the door behind us for some privacy.
"Text me when you get home. Okay?" I ask.
"Of course," he says.
"If your parents are fighting don't be afraid to tell me," I tell him.
"I know. Thank you," he says, pulling me into his chest, hugging me.
He kisses my head and says, "I'll see you tomorrow."
I nod as he releases me.
I go on my tippy toes to quickly peck his lips, but he grabs onto my waist and makes the kiss a little longer.
I'm not complaining though.
