About a week later, Emery's dad moved out and got an apartment nearby. Emery still lives in his house with his mom, but he visits his dad frequently.

Right now I'm at his house, working on some homework. I want to show him something I've been working on, but I don't want him to get the wrong interpretation of it.

I close the textbook he's reading.
"Yes?" he asks me, looking at me with a devilish smile.
"I want to show you something," I tell him.
"What is it?" he asks.
"I don't know actually... Last week, I was writing a poem for literature, and it turned into something else so I had to start over," I say.
"Okay, so you wrote a poem," he says, making it sound more like a question than a statement.
"It's longer than a regular poem though," I say.
"Show me it," he says with a questionable look.
"Don't get mad," I say, giving him my computer where the document I wrote it is opened.
He starts reading it and suddenly asks, "Is this about me?"
I stay quiet and bite my lip, scared to see if he's upset or not.
"Wow," he says, sounding impressed as he continues to read it.
"Are you mad?" I ask.
"Mad? No way. Zoey, this is... I don't even have the words to explain it. This is great. You wrote this?" he says.
"Yea," I say, smiling and looking down.
"Sing it," he says.
"Emery, you know I don't sing," I say seriously as my head shoots back up to look at him.
He looks at me. "Really Zoey? Just sing it. It's just me. My mom isn't even here."
I huff out an annoyed sound, stand up, and start to sing what I wrote in a tune that seemed to just flow with it.

•Song: "Don't Leave" by Snakehips & MØ (music video attached above)•

You know me
Now and then, I'm a mess
Please don't hold that against me
I'm a girl with a temper and heat
I know I can be crazy

But I'm not just a fuck-up, I'm the fuck-up you need
I don't hear nobody when you focus on me
Perfectly imperfect, yeah, I hope that you see
Tell me you see
'Cause I know that you've been thinking 'bout it

Don't leave
Shut your mind off and let your heart breathe
You don't need to be worried
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better
Don't go
What we have here is irreplaceable
No, I won't trade this for nothing
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better than me, yeah
Love you better than me

In a room full of people with you
I don't see anybody else, no
When we fight, and you're right
So sorry, I make it just so difficult

But I'm not just a fuck-up, I'm the fuck-up you love
We ain't like nobody else, tell me so what
Perfectly imperfect, yeah, baby, that's us
Baby, that's us
'Cause I know that you've been thinking 'bout it

Don't leave
Shut your mind off and let your heart breathe
You don't need to be worried
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better
Don't go
What we have here is irreplaceable
No, I won't trade this for nothing
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better

Sitting in the living room
You look at me, I stare at you
I see the doubt, I see the love
I have and it is all for you
Let me wrap myself around you, baby
Let me tell you you are everything, you are
Losing my words, I don't know where to start

But baby, don't leave me
Shut your mind off and let your heart hear me
I won't trade this for nothing
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better

Don't leave
Shut your mind off and let your heart breathe
You don't need to be worried
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better
(There ain't nobody gonna love you better than me)
Don't go
What we have here is irreplaceable
No, I won't trade this for nothing
I may not ever get my shit together
But ain't nobody gonna love you better than me, yeah
Love you better than me

•end of song•

Throughout the whole song I don't look at anything but the carpeted floor of Emery's bedroom. As I finish, two more feet walk their way into my view.

Emery lifts my chin after I finish and says, "You're right. Ain't nobody gonna love you better than me."
I try to push him away by his chest but fail, as he engulfs my entire body in a hug.
"So you wrote that whole thing in my perspective?" he asks.
"I guess," I say.
"You know me better than I know myself," he tells me.
I laugh.
"Oh, and by the way you can sing much better than you must think you do," he says.
I look up at him and place a kiss on his chin.

We go back to working on homework, but soon enough after we do, he closes my textbook.
"You know, before I thought you had something else in mind, when you interrupted my work," he says.
Boy, the devilish smile he puts on as he says this seems oddly familiar.
"Oh yea?" I say.
He just makes an "mhm" sound.
"What did you have in mind?" I ask.
"Multiple scenarios," he says.
I raise my eyebrows, while he just keeps that damn smirk of his on.
He lyes down, kicking our books off of his bed in the process. I stay seated straight up.
"Zoey," he says. By the sound of his voice, I can tell he is getting irritated with me.
"Yes?" I ask innocently.
"Lye down," he commands.
I do as he says, causing him to hover over me.
"Hello there," I say.
He laughs and says, "You're cute."
"I know," I tell him.
He laughs again.

He lowers his head and tries to kiss me, however his forehead clashes with mine.
"Fuck-up," I jokingly mutter, earning a laugh from him.
