Jacob's POV

"You should not go about frightening respectable gentleman, young man." Was all the man said as I pointed my hidden blade at him.

"I didn't realise that snooping around was considered gentlemanly." I said as I looked at him with a suspicious look in my eyes.

"Snooping? Sir, I assure you..." Was all he said before I heard a very familiar voice speak up from behind me.

"Seriously Jacob, I leave you alone for a few minutes and you already have your blade pointed at someone." I turned around and saw that it was (Name). I was about to speak up but then, she simply turned from me and said to the man, "I am so sorry for his behaviour sir, I assure you he means no harm." Before the man could say anything, we heard another voice call out,

"Keep vigilant." We looked around and saw a few more Blighters walking around the building.

"Quick! Inside." I say as I use my hidden blade to break the lock and pulled the door open just enough for all three of us to fit inside. Once all of us are inside, I quickly close the door behind me.

"That was too close a call. You, young man and young lady, gave me quite a fright! I thought you were one of them, but I realise now why you're here. Same reason I am, I imagine." The man said once the door was closed securely behind us.

"I imagine..."

"You should see this." He begins to say as we walk around the building. "A rather impressive contraption, wouldn't you say?"

"I've seen bigger."

"My, I had no idea you swing that way Jacob." I could see the smirk on (Name)'s face as she spoke and, what exactly she said had caught me off guard.

"Wait, what?"

"It's alright, there's no shame in admitting it. After all, there are quite a few good-looking guys out there." She said as she sent me a wink.

"Now wait just a moment..." I tried to think of something, anything, to say, but I couldn't think of anything. (Name) simply shot me a grin before walking over to the man, who we still don't know the name of, and saw that he was holding a book and looking through it.

"Datura stramonium. Or Devil's snare, as it is commonly called...That goes into the syrup? And Opium, no less. Revolting! Absolutely sickening!" The man said before he walked over to one of the valves. "A favourable way to proceed, wouldn't you agree?" Before anyone could say anything, he turned the handle of the valve, releasing what looked to be a green gas.

"Well, I was not expecting that." (Name) said.

"You two find a way out of here, quickly!" I said.

"What about the other valves?" The man asked.

"Jacob, you're not seriously thinking about it, are you?" (Name) then asked after him.

"Take a wild guess love." I said as I glanced towards the door, signally for them to get out of here. "Now, get out of here."

"I swear Jacob, you're more reckless than anyone I ever know. You better be out of here soon, or I'm coming back for you."

"Don't worry about me, I'll be but a few moments. Now go." Nothing else was said as both the man and (Name) made their way out of the building. "Now, time for a little fun." I said as I begin to cause a little chaos.

End of POV

Time skip

"That boy is really something special." I said out loud not too long after leaving the building, waiting for that idiot to finish up. Not long later, there was an explosion from within the building. I looked over and saw that Jacob was leaping out from the building and landed on the building just beside the distillery. Then, he made his way over to where the man and I were waiting.

"Well, that was fun." He said as he approached us.

"Is there ever going to be a time where you don't blow things up?" I asked.

"Where would the fun be in that?" Before I could say anything else the man spoke up.

"Well done, dear boy. Now then with that out of the way," He held out his hand and we shook it. "Charles Darwin, delighted to make your acquaintance."

"Jacob Frye, and this right here is (Name) (Last name). The pleasure is all ours." Jacob said in reply as I gave Charles a small smile in acknowledgement.

"Now then, while you were busy wreaking havoc, I found this." Charles said as he showed us the book he had found while in the building. "It indicates that a sample of every batch has been sent to Lambeth Asylum."

"Hmm, I wonder if it's visiting hours." Jacob said out loud.

"You can't possibly be thinking of going right now." I said.

"Why not? We now know our next destination, why not go right now?"

"Don't be so hasty Mr. Frye. Many people work at Lambeth, you wouldn't want to attract any unwanted attention." Charles said.

"Hmm, where's the fun in that?" Jacob said.

"Honestly, must everything be about just charging in and fighting the hell out of everything, or even blowing things up?" I asked.

"Hey, fighting and blowing things up is what I do best."

"Not every problem can be solved by blowing things sky high. Sometimes a little discretion is in order." Charles then said before I could say anything else to Jacob.

"Mr Darwin is right. If we just charge in, there is a good chance that we'll be quickly overwhelmed and, regardless of how good we can fight, being outnumbered decreases our chance of success. I believe the best way in which to succeed is to be discreet." I said as a follow up to what Charles just said.

"It's getting rather late now, so I'll meet you both at the Asylum to continue our investigation. Until then Mr Frye, Miss (Last name)." With that said, Charles walked off, leaving Jacob and I all alone.

"Well, he seems to be an interesting man." I said as I watched him go.

"At least he's on our side." Jacob said before turning around to fully face me. "You know, you're so going to get it for what you said back in the distillery." I immediately knew what he was talking about and couldn't help but grin just ever so slightly before tilting my head to the side and give him an innocent look.

"I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about Mr. Frye." I said in an innocent voice.

"You know exactly what I mean (Name)." I couldn't help but move closer towards him while keeping the innocent look on my face.

"It's not my fault that you have seen bigger Jacob, you shouldn't have to be ashamed of that. It's just like I said, there are a lot of good-looking guys around here, take your pick."

"You know that's not what I meant." His voice sounded rather husky as he spoke and I couldn't help but notice how he seemed to have moved a little closer towards me, our bodies being within centre metres of each other's. I could feel my heart pound against my chest as I realised the proximity of our bodies.

"Then why don't you tell me what you meant then. Or, you could even show me if that's what you prefer." As soon as I spoke, I couldn't believe what I just said and, from the look in his eyes, he seemed rather caught off guard once again.

"That's a very tempting offer." He spoke after a few moments of silence. Nothing more was said as we looked into one another's eyes and slowly, very slowly, begin to lean in.
