Chapter 23: Scarborough Fair

Natsume's POV

I was walking through the mansion hall. It was boring~! School was over and I have nothing to do. Suddenly, I hear a voice. I walked towards it to see a door sightly opened. It was the door to the balcony. I looked through it and saw Kanato. He was sitting on the balcony, holding his teddy, singing a song. Kanato stops singing.
Kanato: Natsume-san, what are you doing here?
Natsume: Oh, I heard to singing out here. It was beautiful.

We stayed in silence for a few minutes until Kanato spoke again.
Kanato: Isn't it a nice night?
Natsume: Yeah....I guess. Why are you sitting on the balcony ledge? It's dangerous.
Kanato: I'll be fine.
Natsume: Please get down Kanato.
Kanato: Your face is a mix of anxiety and fear, it's cute.

Kanato: I hate it when you have that expression, it makes me worry why you are so afraid of me.

Kanato: You don't have a clue how conceited that makes you. You are incredibly foolish, it's so cute that it makes me laugh.
Natsume: It's not wrong to worry about other people.
Kanato: I don't need you to worry. Do you really want me off the ledge that badly.
Natsume: Yes.
Kanato: You should give me a kiss because if you do, I'll be happy to come down but if you can't, you should just leave me alone and get lost.
I walked up to Kanato and kissed his cheek.
Natsume: There, I did my end of the deal, now it's your turn.
Kanato looked a bit shocked and then pouted. He then stood up and started leaning back.
Natsume: What are you-
Kanato started falling backwards, making me run to him.
Natsume: Kanato!
I jumped over the balcony. Everything was in slow motion. I grabbed Kanato and hold him tight. I made my back face the ground and we landed with a huge thump.
Natsume: Nng, are you alright Kanato?
Kanato was laying on my chest. He was hovering over me on his hands and knees with teddy next to us. I was under him, pushing myself off the ground with my elbows. I blushed on how close we are but it was not big.
Kanato: Why, why did you jump? A fall from the second floor won't hurt me.
Natsume: (Why did I save him?) I didn't like seeing you fall. It was an instinct.
Kanato: But, I wanted to die. I wish I could die so easily.
Natsume: Do you really want to die now?
Kanato became quiet. He thought over my question.
Kanato: Maybe, but not right now.
Kanato stood up and picked up teddy.
Kanato: There is a place that I am fond of, I would like to take you there today.
Natsume: Alright.
When they arrive in the place, it is a room filled with figurines in wedding dresses.
Natsume: What are they?
Kanato: Those are wax figurines.
Natsume: I've never seen them before.
Kanato: Even Teddy perks up when we come here.
I was looking at all the was figurines. All of them had beautiful dresses. As I was looking around Kanato asked me a question.
Kanato: You look like you aren't enjoying it.
Natsume: That's because wax figures look eerie, I wish they were cute like Teddy.
Kanato: I agree that Teddy is the cutest of them all but in terms of soullessness, Teddy is like them.
Natsume: What do you mean by "soulessness"?
Kanato: You know, your sister would be beautiful as a silent corpse.
I turned around.
Kanato: Would you like your sister to become a figurine right here and now?
He then turns and faces at me.
Kanato: I would keep her displayed so carefully.
Natsume: What are you talking about?
Kanato: Teddy would be happy to have a new friend and it's a win-win situation for your sister. What is your reply?
I then realized, Yui is gonna turn into one of these life less dolls.
Natsume: I don't want you to turn my sister into a lifeless doll! I need to tell Yui.
I try to run to the exit but suddenly, I felt chains wrapped around my wrists and legs. The chains pulled me against the wall. The inpacted to the wall made my back hurt and the chains on my wrist are starting to bruise. How the hell did these chains get on me!?

Kanato: Why are you so frightened? That's an excellent expression.
Kanato then licks me
Natsume: Stop!
Kanato: I love the look on your face. I wonder why faces twisted in fear excites me so much.
He licks my neck.
Kanati: Drained of blood, your transparent skin will probably become smooth and white like ceramic.
Kanato bites me and started drinking my blood. I closed my eyes and turned my face to the side, not looking at Kanato as I moaned in pain.
Kanato: The taste of your blood is so rich and sweet.
He kept drinking but then paused to talk.
Kanato: Even the sounds you make is cute.
He stops momentarily.
Kanato: I won't drink every drop of your blood, so you shouldn't worry.

He gave me one of his crazed smiles.
Kanato: Your sister would be lovelier than the prettiest bride.
Natsume: T-Then, these are all the sacrificial brides that had been here before Yui.
Kanato: Your right, Natsume. I'll make her more comfortable soon.
He was about to bite my neck again until Ayato came in.
Ayato: Kanato, Reiji wants to you.
Kanato: Tch, what a pain. I'll see you later Natsume~!
Kanato gave me a peck on my cheek and starts leaving. The chain lets me go and I fall on the floor.
Natsume: Thanks, I guess.
Ayato: Don't get the wrong idea.
Surprisingly, Ayato was walking out the room.
Ayato: I don't want to drink from you because I'm not into it today, I'm too tired.
Ayato walked out if the room, leaving me alone. I got up and walked out of the room.
I was walking slowly in the hallway and I spotted Subaru.
Subaru: You'll definitely die if you stayed here.
I walked toward him and leans on his chest.
Natsume: What choice do I have? Me and Yui have no place to go.
Subaru: Go now because you have a chance now.
Subaru said before looking at the clouded moon.
Natsume: No, I'm not running away.
Subaru: Why not, you're wasting a rare opportunity.
Natsume: I don't want to run away patheticly like this, plus I want to know why Yui was sent here as a bride. Do you know why?
Subaru: I know nothing.

When Subaru looked at me, he me a distant look and then gives me a silver knife.
Subaru: It is made of silver and it can kill vampires like us with a stab to the heart.
I look at Subaru confusingly.
Natsume: Why do you give me this?
Subaru left without answering me, leaving na alone once again. I walked back to my room, I opened the door to see Laito on my bed.
Natsume: *sighs* Laito, Why the hell are you here?
Laito: You kept me waiting Cutie-chan. Why are you making that face?
Natsume: I have no time for you, get out.
Laito: Are you seriously saying that to me?
Natsume: Yes now get out!
He then notices Subaru's knife. He grabs my hand holding the knife and then points the knife at his heart.
Natsume: What are you doing?
Kaito: It's an honour because I never knew how much you loved me.
I was confused before Laito explains to me.
Laito: To a vampire, murder is the ultimate ways to confess your love. You wield the finality that can end the life of an immortal.
Natsume: Laito....
Laito: Do you know how it feels to love someone so much that you hate them?
He pushes me into the door.
Laito: When all is said and done, we are very much alike.
I try to push him away.
Laito: Your hot blood speaks to him with its incredibly delicious aroma.
Natsume: Let me go! Laito!!
Laito: You know that you want me.
Natsume: How could you know that? Let me go dammit!
Laito: Say it, scream that you want me. There is no one to save you, not even Bitch-chan. If it is so important to live, suppressing one's desires.
Natsume: I don't know why it's important.
Laito is about to bite me when I quickly said.
Natsume: I'll still believe no matter how painful life becomes that someone would save me and Yui from this hell hole. Man is weak and that is why I must believe and get out of here!!
Laito stops as he slowly laughs.
Laito: I've never met an interesting male like you, I was only interested in your blood but because of what you just said, I've changed my mind. See ya Cutie-chan!
Laito went away, making me let out the breath I've held in.
Natsume: *sighs* One minute he's nice to me and now he's back to being a douch bag.
I look at the silver blade Subaru gave me.
Natsume: Why?
I slowly closed my eyes, sleeping on the wall don the floor.
Natsume: (Scarborough Fair, huh. Kanato's voice is very beautiful)
