It almost felt like a twisted sense of deja vu as I walked into detention, Tuesday morning. Except, viewing the scene, Matt was right behind me. Georgia was sitting on the desk in front of Will again. Except, this morning, she cut herself off to smile at me, "Morning Jenna."

When her eyesight shifted to the person behind me, the smile fell from her face. She glanced back to continue her conversation with Will.

I sighed gently, not bothering to reply. I swung my bookbag onto the desk in front of me and interrupted their conversation, "Ah, Georgia?"

She turned to me with another grin, "What's up, Jen?"

"Were you gonna give me that lesson? The one we discussed last week?"

She frowned slightly and then she remembered, "Oh! Right. Of course." She glanced at Will and then at Matt before back to me, "Did you want me to help in here or somewhere else?"

I said confidently, "Somewhere else."

Which was how we ended up on the floor of the hallway outside, going over coordinate geometry.

I groaned, "But why is b the y-intercept and not y?"

"Because y is the y-coordinate," Georgia said slowly. She spoke slowly to get the point across though rather than to make me feel younger.

"So the y-coordinate is equal to..." I paused, "The gradient divided by the x--"

"Multiplied," she corrected.

I sighed, "I'm never going to get this."

"You will," she encouraged, "Try again."

"The y-coordinate is equal to the gradient... multiplied by the x-coordinate?"

She waved one hand to get me to continue.

I frowned. What else was left? I groaned slightly and pressed a hand to the side of my head, "The um... plus the... what was it? ... y-intercept?"

Georgia smiled brightly at me, "You got it."

And for the first time... I didn't feel completely useless in maths.

Courtney smiled at him, "We have a cheer competition coming up. Did you want to come watch?"

Matt raised an eyebrow from the other side of the table, "A cheer competition? Like... pompoms and pink dresses?"

I rolled my eyebrows, "Our team has black and green dresses, thank you."

Courtney smirked, "And pompoms are cool."

Matt scowled, "If I told you I was busy?"

Courtney shook her head, "I wouldn't believe you because we haven't even told you the time and date of the competition."

Matt sighed, "What's in this for me, Court?"

Courtney and I exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter.

I asked between giggles, "Have you... ever even... seen the... girls that cheer?"

Matt shook his head, looking between us like we were idiots.

I rolled my eyes at him, "What's in it for you is getting to see hundreds of girls in one large room all wearing super short skirts."

Matt narrowed his eyes, "I'm listening..."
