Courtney

Jenna held me even tighter as Will tried to pry her off. I chuckled, "Jen, I have to go."

My best friend made a noncommittal sound and just readjusted her head on my shoulder. Mum called from the car, "Hurry up, Courtney, or you'll be late!"

That was where Jenna chose to let go. I stepped back and reached forward to give Will a hug too, much shorter of duration. I stepped back again and glanced at the third boy in line. I simply turned away, "Bye g-"

A hand on my forearm stopped me. I glanced over my shoulder at the blonde-haired boy it belonged to. Alex smiled hopefully, "Do I get a hug goodbye?"

This boy doesn't give up. I glanced up from his trashed Nikes and jeans, to his plain white tee and leather jacket. His pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes glowed on top of that. Standing next to Will, he looked like the unfortunate twin, not the unfortunate best friend.

His impish smile glowed brightly. I rolled my eyes but let him wrap his arms around me. Before I could pull away, he whispered in my ear, "Just give me a chance..."

I backed away and climbed into the car. I brought my knees up to my chest, already consumed in my own thoughts. Alex was cute, in a 'Lost Boy' type of way. He was an idiot, the class clown and I'm pretty sure he had a few screws loose in the head but he could also be sweet, sincere and blatantly amusing. He knew the difference between a joke and an issue, which most boys our age didn't.

The boy that messed with my head so much was doing precisely that; he was messing with my head. He was the exact opposite of Daniel that even this slight fascination I have for Alex confuses me.

Daniel is dark, Alex is light.

Daniel is mystery, Alex is honesty.

Daniel is sexy, Alex is idiotic.

Daniel is reserved, Alex is extroverted.

And yet they both intrigued or, rather, are intriguing me.

Lena

"They want to do Caught in the Middle. They all know it, well, the entire world knows it. Plus, they have all practised it before. However, I read some of Jenna's new songs. She has this one called 'I'm healing' and... well, it's a hell of a lot better than the other one. But, they only have four days to learn it and Courtney is away until, like, an hour before the show..."

Mr Wellington raised a hand, cutting off my rant. He stared at me before nodding, "I see the problem... Go to class, Lena. I'll have it fixed by lunch."

My eyes widened as my jaw slackened slightly, "W-wha..."

Mr Wellington just smirked up at me from his desk, "If you haven't gathered this from your brother, I've been told numerous times by him that I can solve any situation in under five minutes and then write a song about it."

"You're gonna write a song about this?" I cocked my head, chuckling slightly.

"Just a phrase," Mr Wellington smiled, "Now go to your class or I'll have to fill out paperwork on why I held you back."

I rolled my eyes at him before exiting. I closed the music door behind me before stepping backwards. I moved out into the hallway, backing up before something crashed. A hard body hit my backpack and I cringed at the sound of breaking glass. It rang in my ears as I slowly turned around. Blonde hair flopped down across a forehead as a boy looked down at the floor beneath him. The phone on the ground sat face-down.

I whispered, "Oh my god... I'm so sorry."

I bent down quickly to pick it up, lifting it up slowly. I gasped when I turned it over. I pressed my other hand to my forehead, closing my eyes. Crap. I stood up, holding the boy's phone. The screen was cracked from one corner all the way through to the other.
