I lied about the two week jump in time. I actually don't really like those. I use them when I know nothing can happen until the next planned event. (Go read The Nail Parlour)

Anyway...

He'd promised me. He'd fucking promised me. And he wasn't here.

I glanced around the humid auditorium again, sliding my gaze over parents, siblings and boyfriends. But no Matt.

Jen sighed, "He's not coming, Court. Did you really expect more from him?"

Truthfully, yes.

I just shrugged her off, "Will's there, you know. A few rows behind our parents."

Jen rushed to my side at the door. She spotted Will, Justin and Alex behind both our sets of parents. A wide smile graced her features and I allowed myself a smile too. My best friend hadn't been this happy since... well, since the game against London Academy.

"Girls!" Erica shouted, "We're next on."

I rushed back to the group before I started to shake out my nerves. I pushed all thoughts of Matthew out of my head and zoned into the matching uniforms of my team.

I was strong.

I could do this.

Daniel Sinclair is one-of-a-kind. You could search the globe forever but you'll never find a single guy quite like him. He's unique, beautiful but...

Deadly.

The first things that drew me in were his words. Softly spoken and poetic. Perfect. However, they were venomous. Anything he said protected himself and shielded me from his personality. Well, at the beginning. They transformed from ones of hate to ones of kindness and love.

The next thing to lure me to his trap was his appearance. Six-foot-two, pale and lean, blue-eyed and dark-haired... he was the epitome of handsome. He was as flawlessly carved as a statue of Michelangelo.

Finally, I was succumbed by his need for me. He called me his saviour... his princess in shining armour. Daniel had said he loved me.

And at sixteen-years-old, I'd believed him.

I was sixteen. He was eighteen. I was dumb. He was cunning. I was a teenage girl... I am a teenage girl. He was a jerk... He is a jerk.

He will always be a jerk.

I sat down at the table at lunch with Jen beside me. Will, Justin and Alex barely glanced up from their intense-looking conversation. Matthew looked up at me and I frowned.

Bags hid under his eyes, his hair was dishevelled and... well, he looked like shit.

Julia slid into the seat beside him gracefully, "Hello everyone."

She glanced around like I had as we greeted her back. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "Where's Gee?"

My first instinct was to look at Matt. I was right. His fists were clenched and his gaze was narrowed on his food.

"Matt?" Julia asked him.

He gave an effortless shrug, "At my place."

"Why is she at your house?" Jen asked, leaning forward.
