"I-I liked your Dora curtains.."

I said, looking over at the brown skinned girl. She sat with her head against the window staring at the highway as we drove out of the country and into the city.

Brooklyn burst out in laughter, immediately clutching her mouth with her hand which made me want to rip it away. She was such a beautiful girl, but she was so insecure. "When you didn't say anything when you walked in, I thought you didn't notice," she said between giggled and I shook my head, glancing at her every chance I got. This girl was gonna get me in a car crash.

"No, um.. that was the first thing I noticed.."

"Yeah this is my childhood house. I guess they didn't really make much of an effort to swap out my stuff." Brooklyn chuckled, "sorry I've been so quiet this whole ride. Im into this.. but it's just so weird being here again. Brings back a lot of memories about my father, and all my family and just.. I don't know"

I immediately felt a pit of guilt in my stomach. "I don't know where to take you."

"Aw, Harry. It's okay. I'm sure this concert will be great. I'm excited."

"Do you know who The 1975 is?" I asked her hestitantly. She jerked up, whipping her head to face me. "The 1975!? Fuck yes, what about the 1975? Is that the band? Oh my lord, Harry I swear to god if you are taking me to The 1975.. I will get on my knees in .5 seconds-"

I burst out in laughter, leaving the poor girl in suspense. I couldn't help but fantasize about what she just told me. Harold, what is wrong with you?

"Yeah, it's The 1975."

"Pull over." She said dryly and we both fell into a pit of non stop laughter. Brooklyn reached over and slapped my thigh, "thank you, harry! Goddamn, I love The 1975! You're amazing, oh my god!" She beamed leaning over and placing a sticky kiss onto my cheek. I couldn't help but smile.

"What can I do to pay you back?"

Make out with me.

"Nothing, Brooklyn" I chuckle. "My present to you. For being an amazing first friend."

The word friend made me internally cringe. God knows not one part of me thought about Brooklyn as a friend. I wanted to be more than that with her. She seemed to have felt the word 'friend' too as her smile drooped. "That was an inappropriate adjective seeing as though we just made out." I said under my breath, switching lanes and exiting the highway. Brooklyn vigorously nodded. "Very much so."

I didn't know what to say really. This wasn't exactly the perfect time to tell Brooklyn I had a throbbing crush on her, so I decided to not respond and continue my series of shortcuts until I reached a parking lot.

I paid the exhausted looking supervisor 10 pounds and told him to keep the 5 pounds change. "What a generous man, you are." Brooklyn giggled looking over her shoulder and smiled. I parked my car near the front and we both walked out and exited the lot.
