Chapter Twenty-Eight

I kept on cursing inside my head. I've never been this nervous before. Sa bawat pagtapak ko sa gas ay si Duke ang naiisip ko. I was too preoccupied about Duke's parents that I forgot, I am with Marcus. Now, it is as clear as my vision. Marcus took my position as the Assassin. He will kill Duke in no time.

Narinig ko ang sunod-sunod na busina mula sa likod. I glanced at my side mirror and saw Theron's car behind mine. He's speeding up like a mad ape. I know, he has no clue of what's happening, but I have no time to explain it to him. I don't have to waste any time. Not anymore.

Not when Duke's life is in danger.

Pagkarating sa harap ng bahay nila Duke ay kaagad akong bumaba. I heard Theron followed my steps. Hindi ko siya nilingon, bagkus, dire-diretso akong pumasok sa kanilang bakid. Tinungo ko ang sala at nakitang nakasara ang pinto. I grabbed my knife before turning the knob, only to find out it is locked.

I immediately pricked its lock. Nagawa ko iyon sa pinakamadaling paraan. Isa iyon sa mga pinag-aralan ko sa mga trainings. When I heard it click, I kicked the door which made a bang on the wall. Inilibot ko ang aking paningin sa buong bahay. Tahimik at walang bakas ng kaguluhan. Nasa dating ayos parin ang mga gamit kagaya ng lisanin ko ang bahay. I wasn't contented. Tinungo ko ang ikalawang palapag at inisa-isa ang bawat silid na nandoon. It was all locked that's why I pricked each of it. Ngunit kagaya sa sala ay malinis at maayos ang mga gamit.

Am I late? But I was never been late my whole life! Kung wala dito sina Duke, nasaan siya? Did Marcus got him? Where did he took him?

Questions rised from the back of my head. I was confused the whole time. Shall I search the forest? Shall I call him?

Bumalik ako sa unang palapag at nagpasyang tawagan si Karleen gamit ang telepono ng bahay. I was literaly shaking the whole time I dialed her number. I heard the familiar ring tone of hers.

"Hello?", she spoke up from the opposite line. Napabuga ako ng hangin ng marinig ang kanyang boses. Echoes of laugh came from her background. Hindi ko man nakikita ay pamilyar sa'kin ang mga tawang iyon.

"Karleen?", I called.

"Who's this? Bakit ka nasa loob ng bahay?", nahimigan ko ang pagdududa sa kanyang tinig. The laughs from her background subsided, tila tinitimbang ng grupo kung sino ang kanyang kausap.

"It's Gab-- I mean, it's Dianne.", sagot ko kasabay ng paghilot ko sa aking sentido.

"Are you guys ok? Nasaan kayo?", tanong ko sa kanya.

"Dianne...", a familiar tone of voice entered my ear. I let out a deep, relaxed breath. Just after hearing his calm and manly voice calms my shaking nerves. I don't know how can he affect me this strong. But one thing is for sure, my body loves it.

"Duke, I though you were--- Fuck!" I turned my head just to see Theron behind me, smirking like an idiot.

"What the fuck are you doing?!", I shouted at him. Nabitawan ko na rin ang teleponong hawak ko. Blood flowed from the cut Theron had made. Napatingin ako doon at nakita ang nakabaon na blade sa likod ng palad ko.

"I am doing what I was supposed to do few years ago.", he answered in a stoic voice. His tone was so cold, colder than anything he used. I can't see any emotions in his eyes, not even a single dot.

"What the fuck are you saying?!", iritadong tanong ko sa kanya. I can't help but cuss. I am tired and confused and nervous! No one dares to go through me when I am in this state.

Tumawa siya ng malakas. His laugh boombed inside the house. But it wasn't the laugh I am used to hear. This... his laugh is odd. It was so cold that I thought, I would shiver if I am not the Assasin.

I walked to the kitchen to see some first aid kit. My hand is bleeding and I don't think it is a good idea. This is the last thing I want to do - to be wounded in a wolve's territory.

I was wrapping my wound when the back door opened. It revealed two people who are dressed in a familiar suit. Napatingin ako sa main door at nakitang tatlong lalaki ang pumasok mula doon. They all dressed the same suit, a very familiar suit.

"What's the meaning of this?", tanong ko kay Theron. Ngumisi lamang ito sa'kin at dahan-dahang umiling.

"You know the problem with you, is that you let you lose yourself just because of a mere feeling you thought you feel whenever your Alpha is with you.", he answered in a very bored yet strong manner.

Napakunot ang noo ko sa naging sagot niya. I admit I was blown by his answer but I didn't let him see my emotions. Kung ganoon ay alam niya ang tungkol kay Duke. Pero paano? Kailan pa?

"Yes, I know. I know what you are hiding, Assasin. From your wound which is obviously, from a scratch of wolf paws. Nakalimutan mo rin yatang kaya kong magbukas ng pintuan?", aniya habang nakatitig parin sa'kin. I tried to analyze his moves. I tried to calculate everything. He touched my things. God damn it, Gabriela! Something's making me feel I trusted Theron too much. And something's telling me, he's not the same Theron I used to know.

"We're partners, Assasin. Kung nasaan ka, nandoon ako. Alam ko lahat ng kilos mo. Kung anong ginagawa mo. Your plans. Your moves. Your attitude. I've memorized all of them.", he added. His eyes doubled the coldness of his voice. I can't help but to shut my eyes. I gripped at my coat. I am going to put the blame to myself. How can I be so reckless? All this time, he's watching my moves. He's planning how to turn me down. And now, he succeeded. Theron successfully betrayed me.

Never in my history of being with Theron, I think of him being a traitor to me. But I guess, trusting a person too much leads to someone's own destruction. I don't know what shall I have to feel first. Betrayed. Confused. Hurt. But being hurt isn't in my vocabulary, yet I feel something ripped inside my chest. Like it was being played first and then smashed.

"Remember, Gabriella. We're partners.", aniya gamit ang seryoso nitong ekspresyon. I didn't know what happened next. I felt a needle going through my skin and all became spinning right after.
