Chapter Forty-Seven

I wasted no time. I discussed the plan with the group. After an hour or two, Duke went to our pack and told them about the upcoming war. I don't want to think it's really a war, but I guess I have no choice. Sinimulan nila ito sa madugong paraan, tatapusin ko iyon sa madugong paraan.

Vil and Duke lead the pack. Ilang minuto na rin simula nang umalis sila sa bahay upang magtawag ng ibang kasama. Karleen, Lara, and Ylva are already settled in their place to guard the boundary. Audrey, Mela, and Hansel went with them. Si Gesa at Theron lamang ang sumama sa'kin pabalik sa Headquarters. Hindi ko alam kung seryoso ba si Theron sa kanyang sinabi kanina o nadala lang siya ng galit. But I know, he's hurt. I, myself, didn't expect that Marcus could be that ruthless. Helen is our childhood friend. I'd never imagined Marcus beating her to death.

But then again, people change.

The sky is gloomy. Marahas ang paghampas ng hangin sa mga sanga ng puno sa paligid. Malayang tinatangay nito ang mga dahon sa kakahuyan. Tahimik kaming naghintay nina Karleen sa pagdating ng mga ibang lobo. We settled on the original plan. They guard Winston, Theron will save Helen, Gesa will find Uncle Rayman, and the rest is on me.

Napalingon kami nang marinig ang pagtapak sa mga tuyong dahon sa lupa. We saw Duke and Vil with the pack, ngunit napakunot ang aking noo nang makitang iilan lamang ang kanilang dala. I saw the familiar face of the girl walking with them. Nang makita ang pagtataka sa'kin ay agad itong umiling.

"They drugged almost all of the students." pagpapaliwanag nito sa'kin. My palms clenched into fist. Hindi talaga sila titigil. That Alvarad is really getting into my nerves.

Gesa handed me an earpiece, ganoong rin ang ginawa nito sa mga kasama namin.

"I know, you have mindlink, but we still need to communicate with each other." aniya. Tumango sina Karleen sa kanya.

I saw Fabian and Solene walking towards us, their hands holding each other. Agaran silang dinaluhan ni Duke. I heard him saying they should go home, but the two refuses his command. Now I know where Ylva got her attitude.

"I waited long enough for this to happen. It's payback time." ani Solene at napatingin sa'kin. She gave me an encouraging smile and I nod. Nawala lamang ang atensyon ko sa kanya nang maramdaman ang pamilyar na init galing sa aking likod. I turned around and saw Duke's serious eyes. He stayed silent for some seconds before finally pulling me towards him. His tight hug blocked me from the cold air. I felt his arms caressing my back, his breath slightly tingling my right ear. Bumalot sa'kin ang pamilyar niyang amoy. I inhaled it like I could get my strength from his smell.

"Please be safe," bulong nito sa'kin. I hug him tighter as he spoke those words.

The thing is, I don't know what will happen next. Hindi ko alam kung ito na ba ang huling pagkikita namin, o kung mabubuhay ba kami pagkatapos nito. All I know is that, I need to end this, and I need to survive for him, for the life my mom gave me. I don't want to waste her sacrifices. I didn't came this far just to give up on everything.

Thunder echoed from the skies. Duke broke the hug and intently stare at me. He smirked and then made few steps away from me. Nakita ko ang pagsensyas nito kay Vil, and on cue, the pack climbed the tall trees and hid themselves on the branches.

Lara and Ylva gave me an smirk as they formed just across the boundary. Karleen winked at me and turned her back, facing the dark woods.

"Be safe, Luna" a voice in my head appeared. Napalinga-linga ako sa paligid upang hanapin kung saan iyon nanggaling. Dumapo ang tingin ko sa batang babae. She smiled and bowed to me even if she's few steps away. I once again glanced at Solene and Fabian who's still holding each other's hand. That somehow encourage me and gave me a reason to fight.
