Race

•Pony is 10. Johnny is 12. Soda is 12 going on 13. Steve and Dally are 13. Keith is 14. Darry is 16. I think. They're all just 4 years younger.•

Mrs.Curtis' POV

"Alright boys, line up!" Mr.Curtis yelled. All three of my boys lined up, the other four friends following behind.

"Okay, now. You guys have to race from here all the way to that tree. And whoever gets there first is the winner."

I saw Ponyboy smiling, he knew he was the fastest out of all of them. My baby is going to be a track star when he gets older, I just know it.

My husband blew the whistle and all seven boys took off running.

Johnny was at first behind all of them, he said he had tripped at home and hurt his ankle.

Dally, Soda, and Steve were right behind Pony. Pony had slowed down and pulled Johnny by his hand, pulling both of them in front of everyone.

I know Johnny had a hard time keeping up because he was stumbling all over.

It's amazing how a 10 year old is faster than a 16 year old, let alone everyone else in the family.

Keith and Darry were just trying to keep up but I know they were letting them win.

Once Pony and Johnny reached the tree, Pony jumped up and down excitedly and Johnny, well, was just trying to catch his breath.

I stood up with a toothy smile and congratulated all of them with a huge family hug.

They were all winners in my heart.

We all piled in the car and drove off to a nearby ice cream shop.

Today was just another great day.
