Brave New World

I'm afraid and I don't know why,
I think it resides in the clouds that float above me,
And the grass the tickles my feet below me,
Between the other world behind my eyes and in front of my ears,
I can almost taste my desire to be free from the pain I always see.

The fear that paralyzes me isn't new,
But the raw feeling of uncertainty I feel when I look in the mirror follows me everywhere,
Above my head,
Below my toes,
And beneath my skin that tingles as I blend with the sky and become a blue hue.

I want to be away from my doubt that follows,
That leads me away from my future,
And to my past filled with unwanted memories.

I want to be with the stars,
The midnight glow that comforts me when nothing else will,
The twinkling lights that guide me home when I'm lost,
I'll drift away to Mars someday.

And when I depart,
I'll find new horizons to wander on,
And nothing will ever find me,
Alone on a lonely planet far, far, away.
