Human

You try to tell me I'm less than human,
Because my name is foreign,
And my looks are unfamiliar.

You try to tell me I'm less than human,
Because my tongue is native,
And my language is alien.

You try to tell me I'm less than human,
Because I'm not like you,
And my culture is different.

But when I try to tell you I'm more than human,
Because my eyes see color,
And my ears hear love,

Not hate,

You deem me nonexistent.

When you try to tell me I'm less than human,
And I try to tell you I'm more than human,
My voice becomes muted,
Your words become inaudible.

Can't we just agree?
You and I are human to some degree?
