Chapter 47

It was exam next week and here I was enjoying. But times like these you realize the positivity of being a little nerdy and paying attention in the lecture that during exam a simple revision helps you.

Off lately I was having an intuition or a gut feeling that something bad was about to happen. Not that I appreciate that everything is hunky dory but everything seemed calm. I hadn't got a call from my friends since the engagement, there was no sign of Rick being caught and oddly there was no sign of Alan. All the things happened in such a frenzy that I had no time to think about it. Looking out through the car's window I was wondering about the whole surveillance stuff. I was gonna confront him today before I make my feelings known.

He left Marley with Anna and hopped in the driver's seat. I smiled through that uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was a long ride to the opposite end of the city and silence wasn't how one found it enjoyable.

I connected my cell to the speakers and 'Thinking out loud by Ed Sheeran' played. The words of growing old with someone I love were soothing me. I glanced over the front mirror and saw Ryan eyes teary and sparkling. I saw a pain hidden in his eyes but I was unsure of what was causing it.

Ryan's POV

I had made all the arrangements. I wanted to spend more time with her and hence, I decided a long drive to the venue. She was uncomfortably silent but then she decided to play some songs. When it started playing, the lyrics made so much sense. It was making me vulnerable as I was yearning to lead a simple life with her by my side. But it wasn't because no one knew the reality of 'happily ever after'. I was sad inside but her bothered glance caught my eye. I removed my glares and wore it to cover my teary eyes.

Me: Don't worry. My eyes are sensitive to heat. Continuous staring does that to my eyes.

Riley: But I never asked you anything?

Me: Your pretty eyes give you away.
(I could sense her lips curving into a smile by now.) I know you are innocent at heart and anything that bothers or hurts you can be read in your eyes.

Riley: Really? What do you see in them?

Me: Your dark brown eyes are intense. They are enigmatic as they stare right at an unknown person, easy for him to be baffled. But as one observes them, they show all emotions. They sparkle when they talk about the things you love.

'If they are a book, I want to keep on reading them. If they are the ocean, I want to dive deep in them.'

Most of all, I would like you to save your tears and not waste it on anyone. Except for really painful stuff. Be happy. I like to see your eyes smile.

Riley: I am at a loss for words. That were some of the most beautiful lines I ever heard. It felt surreal.

I could say she was smiling genuinely now. She pulled the window down and let the air blow her hairs by, embracing the wind. She was singing the songs lyrics out loud as if chatting with the winds. I want to see her this happy everyday. Living her life without worrying about the uncertainty of it. She put her hand in the bag and pulled out a skittles pack. Cheekily smiling and selecting her colors. And starting popping in one by one in her mouth.

Me: Easy there kiddo, you will spoil your teeth.

Riley: ooohhh, a mister seems angry! Do you want some? (She asked with a childish expression)

Me: Yeah, let's spoil our teeth together.

And she managed to put mixed colors in my mouth. I was so into the moment that had she given me some wasabi, I would have eaten it gladly without spitting it out. I was surprised how crazy I was willing to get to be with her.

POV end.

I could see a park and smell the beach air already. Wow. He is good at canceling items of my bucket list. I was excited at the thought of enjoying all the rides with him.

He parked the car and came in and buyed tickets to the giant wheel. As the line progressed, we sat in it. It felt like I was floating in air with him. It halted suddenly and I grasped his arm close. He held my chin up and gently gave a peck on my forehead. Nothing assured me more than his warm and gentle gestures. I flustered at my guardian angel. It started moving again, and going down gave me a funny feeling in my stomach. I saw him excitedly screaming too. His inner child shined through.

We came down and stopped by a stall to buy cute bunny ears for me and the devil horns for Ryan. I asked him to buy some ice cream for us and I sneaked away to the stall with darts. I aimed and bursted the balloons and won him a teddy bear. 

He came in with the cones and looked amused by the teddy bear.

Ryan: I thought we decided to spend the day together!

Me: Yes. Why do you ask?

Ryan: Then how come you shopped without me?

Me: (I bursted out laughing at his pouty expression) I didn't shop alone. I won it for you. (Handing him over the teddy) Keep it with you when am not around. Hug it when you miss me and may it remind you to smile always. 😊
