Pandora had a master who she studies under. This person found portals that could bring you anywhere in the world and he later thought that these portals could be dangerous if it came under the control of the wrong people. Imagine using it to send your army to another country to take it over or destroy it by getting past the defenses of a country undetected and without resistance, so he destroyed them all.
The last and biggest one was in the North Atlantic Ocean on an undiscovered and uninhabited island and he destroyed it but the side effect was that he was now stranded on the island all alone and died. But when he destroyed the portal it created what we now know of as the Bermuda Triangle also known as the Devil's Triangle.
