"No." I whisper and I take a step further back inside.

"No, what?"

"No, you can't be here."

"And why's that? Not because you do such a good thing hiding yourself from me."

"I'm not hiding."

"I can see that. But why are you so surprised I'm here then?"

"Cause it's not a good thing for you to be here."

"Bad for who? You or me?"

"Both."

"And why's that?"

"Cause I've heard things about you."

"What kind of things?"

"I've heard a lot."

"Like what, Cassandra?" I take a step further back inside. He tries to do the same, but it doesn't work because of the spell

"What the?! Cassandra!"

"What? I didn't invite you in, Damon. It's normal for you not to get in."

"And why do you need to invite me in? You live here alone!" Damon was getting mad, I could tell. I grin and he can't stand if. My grimace disappears

"Wait... Why do you think I live alone?"

"I don't think you're alone. I know you're alone."

"I didn't ask for that."

"I watched you."

"Why would you watch me?!"

"Because I needed to be sure it was you. You acted like a human."

"And you don't when people are around?"

"You do it even when you're alone."

"Yeah, cause I always have the feeling someone's watching me. Even when it doesn't make any sense."

"So you feel someone's watching you, but still you wonder why I knew?"

"I have the feeling that. I don't really feel when someone's watching. I only think someone is."

"Right." There was a moment of silence. Shit! The dance!

"What is it you want, Damon?"

"You."

"What do you want from me?"

"Your help."

"With what?"

"I can't tell you. Not yet."

"What? Why did you come to me then?!"

"Cause I heard you don't have a date." He was smirking at me

"What we had is past time. It was a mistake. It should have never had happened, Damon."

"OK, it was wrong, but, you have to admit... it was kinda fun." He was still smirking. The same way he always smiles. I can't stop myself and I crack a small smile

"Sure. It was fun."

"Now... Can I come in?"

"No."

"What?! Why not?!"

"What we had could be fun, but it's over. And I don't trust you."

"But you'll have to come out. The dance is almost starting." Shit the dance!

"So? I can still say I'm sick." I tell him with a poker face

"Oh, no. I know there's something up around here. Those two boys who are always around you, they need you tonight. And I'll bet they won't even see me coming."

"Leave them out of this."

"Only if you let me be your date for tonight. As a reminder of the fun we had."

"The fun we had. Past tense."

"I know. That's why I said it."

"What do you need my help for Damon?"

"If I tell you now, you probably won't help."

"Then I would have a reason not to."

"No. You just need time to see that I'm serious about this. And if you'll say no after I tell you, I'll go and I'll leave you and your friends alone."

"Swear it."

"I swear it." I listened to his heartbeat. Not a irregularity to spot.

"OK, deal. But only if you'll leave us alone."

"Deal." I walk outside and shake his hand. I lock the door behind me and take my phone from my purse

I put my phone back in my purse and take my keys out.

"Oh, hell no, Cassandra. I'm driving."

"Oh hell no, Damon. My car." Without anything else I open the door of the drivers seat and sit down. I wait till I hear the other door close again

"Unbelievable."

"You read my mind." It started of quiet, until Damon decided to change that

"So. How did you get in California?"

"People were noticing me not aging back in Virginia."

"Why California?"

"I don't know. I just always wanted to come here." That's not true. I came here to get as far from Mystic Falls as possible, but witout letting it notice I was running.

"Why do you need my help?"

"Ugh, I'll tell you when I think you're ready."

"Right. I'm guessing you don't even need my help. You're just up to something and don't want me to know."

"That's not right! I mean, that sounds like something I would do, but no, it's not what I'm planning. I really do need your help, Cassandra." I sighted. I don't want to hear the truth. Why does he need to make me feel so bad for not trusting him? I just need him to lie to me, then it's OK again for me to hate him for lying.

I drive on the drive in. Damon was wearing a tuxedo. He knew I didn't have a date. He planned this. I got out the car and so did Damon. I walked over the parking lot and I heard Damon follow me. I saw the others still stand on the parking lot.

"Guess I'm not that late." I say when I walk towards them

"No, not at all. We all just arrived." Stiles said when he turned to me

"Thank God." I said smiling. Damon stopped next to me

"Who's that?" Lydia asked, she was probably checking him out, but I can't blame her, Damon is a good-looking man.

"This is Damon Salvator. He's gonna be my date for tonight."

"Where do you know him from?"

"We lived in the same city for a long time, before I moved here." Everyone was making 'ooh' sounds, kinda funny actually. We all went inside and suddenly I heard Allison's heart go up. I look over to her and she's smiling at nothing. I follow her gaze and see Scott run over the roof. Ahh, now I get it.
