ONE YEAR LATER

JEONGGUK : [ chuckles ] i think this is the last time i'll ever be able to visit your grave in person, aiden. i finally made my decision. i think i'm going to fly to the united states. or switzerland. or italy. or... [ laughs ] the possibilities are endless.

[ he sets down a bouquet of red and white carnations next to a grave with a small gravestone reading 'KANG AIDEN'. ]

JEONGGUK : i think i'll give myself a new identity. [ pauses ] i know a couple of guys who could help me with that. but—but you have to leave my body. i can't take you with me. it's time. in order to start fresh, you need to—you need to go. it's been years, aiden. [ winces in pain ] i know. i know. we've done so many things together. things i've never imagined myself even doing. but you know, at the end of the day, this body is mine. i need to move on. i've exposed myself here for far too long, and i can't take that risk anymore. i can't do this forever. it was a hard decision, but... after i—no, we—killed namjoon, i think it got clear for me. that... that was way too close. but after that, i couldn't feel the same rush anymore. i know that you—no, we—have gone through so much, but i don't have the same amount of... energy left in me. nor the bloodthirstiness. i don't feel the rush of adrenaline anymore. i tried to take you out of my body once, and i thought that would be the last time. now, i'm asking again. [ pauses ] aiden? you've been awfully quiet for a—

[ JEONGGUK gasps suddenly, lurching forward and clenching his chest out of sudden pain. he coughs and breathes heavily, his eyes nearly bulging out due to his repeated coughs. he heaves, his knees giving out below him. ]

JEONGGUK : [ gags in a choked voice, wraps his hands around his neck in attempt to relieve some pressure ] o-oh god, fuck, are you leaving? are you—are you finally leaving? fuck, fuck, fuck, it feels like my body is on fire. couldn't you leave more painlessly? i—

[ his eyes tear up, gagging endlessly as he rests his body weight over AIDEN'S gravestone. he takes in a shaky breath, trying to calm his tremulous hands. ]

JEONGGUK : a-aiden, what—what are you doing to me? i don't—i don't think t-this is right. a-are you sure—are you sure you're leaving? [ in a raspy voice ] i—i don't think this is how it is supposed to feel—

[ JEONGGUK'S back hunches as he heaves, his breaths turning more short and shallow than it had been before; his eyes turn red due to the lack of oxygen. he finally retches, vomiting on the grassy patch behind AIDEN'S gravestone. when the taste of iron spreads inside of his mouth, JEONGGUK stares in horror as he sees a generous amount of blood on the grass. he wipes his lips with the back of his quivering hand, softly gasping in surprise to see his smeared blood on his skin. when he feels a dull pain in the back of his head, his eyes roll back and his body slacks, slumping over AIDEN'S grave. ]

JEONGGUK : [ eyes flutter open after a dramatic pause ] oh. [ clears throat, getting up from the ground, dusting his knees off ] ah. this feels a lot better. [ stretches briefly ]

JEONGGUK : [ abruptly coughs, eyes bulging, struggling to speak ] n-no, ai, aiden—

JEONGGUK : [ slaps his own cheek ] oh, shut up, jeongguk. stop being a ninny. [ winces in slight pain ] stop fighting it. we both knew this was going to happen.

JEONGGUK : [ sputters ] no. no—i'm supposed to start anew—not like this. a new city, a new name, a new— [ gags, covering his mouth ] oh, fuck— [ eyes roll back, his body turning slack before it jolts back up, almost freakishly ]

JEONGGUK : a new name? [ smirks, chuckling in amusement as he swipes his thumb over his lips to wipe off the remnants of the blood ] then... aiden it is.

HEY GUYS !! it's been MORE THAN A YEAR since i last updated. i am so, so sorry. however, i had this in my drafts and i guess i forgot to publish it :,) i am so sorry to keep you guys waiting, and if you have stuck around, thank you! but if you have left, i am so sorry and i hope you enjoyed your stay. :)
so, this is technically supposed to be the end. BUT! as mentioned before, i most likely will include a short prequel (in this same novel) in order for you guys to gain some insight into jeongguk's life previous to all this! it may help with any questions y'all have. and after that, i'll include a very full author's note along with explanations. thanks again you guys <3 and i'll do my best to reinstate the story because i forgot a lot of things ngl LOL
