jack suddenly came running down the hallway with the biggest smile plastered on to his face along with a packet in his hand.

"zach, guess what?" he asked never letting the smile leave his lips.

zach raised his eye brow as he let out a confused laugh, "what jack?"

"i got an a on my math test" jack sounded so proud of himself as he basically shoved the paper in to my face.

i took the packet and i looked at it and on the top was circled, "twenty nine out of thirty."

"good job jack" zach praised the boy as he reached over and ruffled the boy's curls.

which made jack go red as he was caught of guard.

jack just seemed so happy and it brought a smile on to zach's face as he watched the rare sight.

"how do you think you did on the social studies quiz?" i asked as i walked with jack to choir.

jack looked around, "at least a b."

when they got done doing warm ups, daniel was walking towards zach as he took a drink from his water bottle.

it caught zach off guard and he thought daniel was just gonna walk past him but he stopped right beside him.

"hey" daniel said as he showed his tooth gap.

zach immediately went red, why are you talking to me now?

zach kept his cool as he smiled back at the boy, "hi."

"soccer try outs are tonight" he said and zach nodded unsure of what to say next.

"are you gonna try out?" daniel asked and from the corner of his zach's eye he saw jack glancing at him.

"yeah" i said as watched jack turn away.

weird.

i continued, "do you know who the new coach is?"

"it's lilian" he answered, "the new librarian?" zach asked as he put the cap back on his bottle.

daniel nodded, "its kind of strange that george transfered last minute." just at the sound of his name made zach's back crawl as he awkwardly looked towards a wall.

"do you k-know why he t-tansferred?" zach asked cursing himself that he stuttered.

daniel raised his eyebrow, "no, why?"

"n-no reason" zach answered quickly and he could feel daniel's eye's drilling in to him.

"are you okay?" he asked.

"yeah" zach nodded and the bell rung and he said a quick bye before rushing towards the door.

"his chest felt like it was collapsing."
