Chapter 41

Sam knelt next to the crater as Nico began to chant, and tossed in the food and drinks, which began to bubble. ghosts began to appear around them, and before anyone could stop him, Minos began to drink from the hole in the ground. Percy drew his sword, but it was to late as Minos's form became clearer. Nico was forced to keep the chant going and Sam couldn't do anything because using most of her concentration to help Nico keep the other spirits away.

Minos admitted to being the one that had driven Chris Rodriguez mad, and Sam's eyes narrowed but she kept her focus as the spirits began to stir. A silvery light appeared at the edge of the hole, and Sam let out a sigh as she released her hold on the spirits. When the ghost rose after drinking from the pit, Bianca stood before them, and Nico stopped his chanting.

She told Percy that it wasn't his fault that she had died, it had been her choice, and Nico needed to let go of his grudge. She admitted to being the one who had sent the iris messages to Percy, and Nico demanded to know why she would Percy and not him. She questioned him on who e was truly mad at, and Nico's anger faltered, but not by much. She pleaded for him to let go of his grudge, or Kronos would use it against him. She said her goodbyes to Nico, but as she faded she turned her gaze on Sam. " You'll look after him for me, won't you? Your his sister to."

" I'll do my best." Sam said and Bianca smiled before disappearing in a flash of bright light.

As they were saying thier goodbyes to Eurytion, Sam pulled Nico aside. " If you need me-"

" I don't." Nico said and Sam let out a breath, mentally reminding herself that she shouldn't hit him. " If you do though, just summon Philip and I'll come as quick as I can, alright."

" Philip?" He questioned and Sam snapped her fingers. The bushes rustled and the armored skeleton strolled out as if he had been there the whole time.

" Why do you get a dead servant, I don't." Nico complained and Sam rolled her eyes before turning to the undead soldier.

" My lady." Philip said and Sam gave him a look. " Sorry, Sam." He said sounding very disappointed in himself as he continued. " I will stay at the boys side, until told otherwise."

" No hovering, just keep him from doing anything stupid, alright. Treat him like you would me." Sam commanded and Nico stared at Philip before turning to walk away, the skeleton not far behind. " Do you like milkshakes?" Philip asked but Sam didn't hear the response as joined the other next to Eurytion.

Eurytion gave Annabeth a small robotic spider that would lead them to Hephaestus's workshop, and they wasted no time as it disappeared into the labyrinth.

They nearly lost the spider when they were crossing a bunch of monkey bars, not being all that great at them, Sam used her powers over the earth to create stepping stones across the chasm; another reason was that Tyson had broken one of the rungs when he was swinging across. When she reached the other side, she raced after the others who had a head start on her. It didn't take her long to catch up since they had stopped in a chamber that resembled some sort of classroom, which was being guarded by a sphinx.

Annabeth volunteered to take the sphinx's question, but after about the third question Annabeth got so annoyed that she refused to answer anymore because they were an insult to her knowledge. The sphinx attacked her when she refused to answer, and Tyson tackled her in midair. Sam grabbed Annabeth while the monster was distracted, and pulled her into the shadows. " S-" she started to say but Sam silenced her with a look as she pulled her toward the barred doorway.

Once the doorway was clear, Sam and Annabeth slipped through, and followed after Percy, Grover and Tyson. Sam let go of Annabeth, brining them back into the light and Percy stared at Sam in amazement. " Your getting good at that."

" The shadows are my specialty."
