Chapter 7 -
A Secret Taken To The Grave

Varian buries his face against the pillow, then sneezes when Rudiger’s tail flicks in his face. With a tired groan the young alchemist sits up and rubs his eyes.

It was a very quiet morning.

Too quiet.

Varian glances around his room then falls back onto his bed.

A knock made him look to his door as it opens.

“Well I didn't think you'd be up early.”

Varian sits up and stares in shock at who was at the door. “Dad?”

Quirin smiles lightly, “Who else would it be? Your mother made breakfast.” He nods his head to follow.

Before his father could turn around, Varian runs over and clings to him. Quirin blinks and kneels down with a concerned expression. “Are you alright, Son?”

Varian wraps his arms around his neck, “You're okay.”

Quirin chuckles, “I am, now let's go get your mother's great breakfast.” He ruffles Varian’s head.

Varian smiles and follows him to the kitchen. Immediately he stops.

There in the kitchen stood a brown haired woman, her hair in a bun as she sets the table with food. She turns around and wipes her hands on her apron. “My Little Prodigy is fully awake? That's the first.” Cordelia laughs warmly.

Varian tears up and runs upon to embrace his mother. “I missed you…..so much.”

He feels her arms wrap around him tightly and she gently kisses his head, “I had missed you too, Varian. My Sweet Baby Boy.”

Varian missed the sound of her voice. The soothing and welcoming tone would always calm him down.

The family of three now sit at the table and eat while talking about what they'll do for today. Varian laughs when his mom flicked a piece of food at his dad.

Varian stared at them as they laughed. The way they're happy and smiling like nothing horrible happened.

He frowns and glances down at his plate, moving his food around with his fork. There's a small pain on his shoulder and he rubs it.

“Are you alright, Sweetie?” Varian's mom asks in concern.

Varian smiles a bit, “I'm fine.” The pain comes again and he flinches, rubbing his shoulder. It felt like a numbing pain.

“So what experiment caused you to sew a patch on your shirt?” His mom chuckles while gently examining the patch on his sleeve. “I have to say, your sewing is very impressive and getting better.”

Varian chuckles, “I didn't patch it. (_____)-...”

Quirin and Cordelia frown in worry as their son cautiously moves away from them.

“This isn't real.” Tears subconsciously fall from Varian's eyes as he wipes them.

Cordelia smiles softly, “Varian isn't this what you always wanted. Me, your father. All of us safe and sound. A family again.”

Varian let's her hug him and he nods.

She starts to hum, but it sounded nothing to like her.

Varian shoves her off and trips backwards before falling forward after something shoves him to the ground, but he catches himself.
