NATE

March 14, 2019

"You sure about this mate?"

I tore my gaze away from the flat house that seemed to taunt me from behind the car window, and met Harry's eyes in the rear-view mirror.

"Yeah," Kat said, she shifted in her seat so that she could have examined my face. "I don't think it's wise to do this, you're still-"

"Unstable?" I offered, raising a brow questioningly. I shook my head and a scoff escaped my lips. "If I wanted to be smothered and worried about, I would've stayed in Celayise."

Leaving my home, leaving Celayise, was the last thing I would have expected myself doing. However, the past few months had been too stressful and extremely difficult for me to cope with.

I needed to leave. I needed change. I couldn't bear to stay and suffer within that country of deceit and suffering.

Kat's gaze dropped to her thighs but she nodded slowly, her jet-black locks swishing in her face. She lifted her head to sneak a peek at Harry- who was busily frowning at the house outside.

After a few minutes of listening Kat's sniffling and excruciatingly painful pop music, I heard Harry's sigh of defeat.
He shifted his gaze to meet mine in the mirror again and they crinkled at the corners. "Just be careful yeah? We'd be waiting right outside."

"No."

Two pair of eyes met mine in alarm, their mouths opening to protest.

"Guys," I said, placing a hand upon each of their shoulders. "I'd be fine. I really need to do this. And this might take a while."

I flitted my gaze towards the large flat that awaited me, and nodded to myself.

Kat sniffled once again, jolting my attention back towards her. "Call us when you want to leave okay?"

I simply lifted the corner of my lips in an attempt of a smile as I squeezed her shoulder assuredly.

As expected, Katherine hadn't taken the news of Alexa's death very well.
With the recent passing of her father, and then Alexa's death, she slowly slipped into a spiral of insanity.

Like me, she left her country that was neighboring Celayise, and has been living with Harry ever since. If her abrupt disappearance and change in appearance wasn't enough as a result of her grieving process, her shift in personality definitely was the shocker.

The ferocious, quippy and sarcastic lioness had been tamed to be a mere timid kitten.

"No worries, I have you guys on speed dial," I said, giving them both one last shoulder pat.

I opened the car door and clambered outside, sinking my boots into the damp grass. I let out a shiver and wrapped my scarf tighter around myself, this London air was cold and unforgiving.

I shut the door behind me, sending wave in the couple's direction, before I trudged my way along the driveway.

All the neighboring houses overshadowed this house's potential. It sticked out like a sore thumb amongst the others, with grey peeling paintwork and a mediocre garden with dying flowers and weeds.

"Why am I not surprised," I muttered to myself. A cold gust of wind danced around me then, making the hairs at the back of my neck stand up.
