(Y/N) woke up.
Her eyelids felt heavy and the light shining through the windows made her desperately wish for some curtains. She didn't have a clear image of how she looked but she definitely knew that her hair was all messed up, her eyes red and puffy from the night before.
Oh boy does she look like a mess.
She couldn't blame herself. If she could, she would throw all the things in this room in despair while screaming on top of her lungs but it's not considered appropriate, especially when the people gave her shelter for the night.
If her life was a scene in a book, this would be the denouement. A heavy climax moment always ends with the main character realizing some things and going back to her normal life.
Lying on the fluffy cotton bed engulfed in warm rays of sunlight seemed relatively peaceful compared to what had just happened the day before.
It was so surreal, she couldn't believe it. The only thing reminding her that it was far from a dream was the horrific image still etched into her mind.
She should forget about that. It was hard to do but maybe if she really forced herself, she could erase the memory from her brain completely. She could try and repress it, no matter how hard it may be for her or what impact it might have on her mental health.
"(L/N)-chan?" The woman, Koda's mother, called out, her voice soft and mellow, "We're having breakfast. Would you care to join us? You have to go to UA eventually. Wouldn't want to miss a day of school, would you?"
It was true, she didn't want to miss a day of school. School would keep her distracted. School would help her cope. She got up without a second thought and walked over to the dining table, having breakfast with the Koda family.
It was a normal family breakfast, one similar to the one that she had just a day ago. She tried not to focus too much on that, she didn't want to start crying again.
"Are you better, dear?" Koda's mother asked and (Y/N) nodded her head. "I'm glad to hear that," the woman continued, "I was so worried yesterday."
"I'm fine, really," (Y/N) reassured, "You didn't have to worry about me but I appreciate it."
"Glad to hear," the woman smiled warmly and continued eating. After everyone was done, (Y/N) offered to clean up — she was, in a way, intruding on their family time — but the woman just told her to hurry on her way to school.
Walking to school with Koda didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable; in fact, it was peaceful. Before a moment of hesitation, Koda spoke. "I know I may not be as close to you as Midoriya-san or Bakugou-san are," he said instead of signing like he usually did in class, "but I guess all of us being in Class 1A means that we have to be there for each other, right? So please, if there's anything going on, please don't feel like you have to keep it to yourself."
