What I knew was something I could not believe,
I couldn't let them suffer a fate that did not deceive
I knew what I had to do was risky, but I couldn't stand by and let that fate unfold,
To let me smuggle their children out so they could survive, is what the parents had been told
With reluctance, they let me take their beloved children so they could be freed,
Exactly 2,500 of the Jewish children smuggled out of Germany had been the deed
Even when captured and tortured, I did not dare speak a word,
Even after they smashed my bones and my vision became blurred
They are the children of the free,
And never would I dare send them to that fate of concentration, or dead they'd be
They are forever survivors,
And for life, they are strivers
