Lullaby

I hear the soft hum as I try to sleep,

She hums softly so I do not weep

She tells me to stay calm and be strong,

But for how long?

No matter how many questions I ask,

She continues to hum the song as if it's her task

She softly strokes my head as she hums,

Yet, I'm unable to sleep due to the sound of drums

They're somewhere outside the house,

We must remain quiet as a mouse

Slowly, I'm drifting off to a world where the dark rules,

In more than one sense, I feel as if we've been used as tools

What happened to the peaceful times,

When we weren't wrongly punished for un-committed crimes

Slowly, I'm falling asleep,

I think I can hear her weep
