Missing Chicken (Tuffnut X Serena)

Tuff watched her flying below Barf and Belch on her tide glider, Mystique. Her dirty blonde hair whipped gracefully behind her from a high ponytail. For a moment, she looked up, meeting his eyes with her own blue-green ones.

Serena Hofferson.

She was two years younger than Astrid, but just smart and sarcastic. However, instead of being annoyed by the twins' trickery, Serena loved it. She thought their jokes and pranks were fun, rather than irritating. And Tuffnut was head over heals for her.

He watched her with a smile as Mystique dove into the water before springing back out. Serena's terrible terror, Clover, held onto her shoulder for dear life. The poor little dragon was drenched and panting.

"Finally, home," Fishlegs sighed when Berk came into view.

"It's been so long," Astrid added. They had just left Dragon's Edge for good that morning. Soon, all of the dragons landed. Everyone split up to go meet back with their families. Everything was back to normal.

Serena was practicing her knife throwing in the arena while the sun set that evening. Clover laid on the ground, watching sleepily. "Ha!" Serena shouted as she sent three knives flying at once. Each hit the bullseye of a seperate target.

She was about to throw more when Tuffnut suddenly appeared infront of her, "Serena!"

"Ah!" Serena yelled in surprise, falling backwards onto the ground. She began to laugh, "alright, alright, you got me." But her smiled faded when she looked up to find a look of worry on Tuff's face. "Tuff?"

"We..forgot..Chicken...!" He spoke in horror.

Serena widened her eyes as she stood herself up, "oh, no!"

"I was just getting ready to read her her favorite story, but..but she wasn't there," Tuffnut explained, "you've gotta help me, everyone else is saying to just wait until tomorrow, but I can't!"

Serena gave him a crooked grin and responded, "alright, I'll help you; let's go."

Overcome by joy, Tuffnut wrapped her into a quick, tight hug. After letting go, his face dusted pink. "Uh, um, yeah, le-let's go," he stuttered.

With a giddy giggle, Serena bounced off toward the docks where Mystique was relaxing in her ocean pen. Since Barf and Belch were still way too tired to make another flight, they decided to both ride Mystique together. Clover took her spot on Serena's shoulder as she climbed onto the tide glider.

When Tuff climbed up after her, Serena blushed. His hands rested on her waist for balance as the dragon took off. And after another long flight for the day, they reached the Edge.

"Alright, Mystique," Serena told her dragon, "rest up." The dragon gurgled in response, then dove into the water where she floated blissfully.

"Chickeeeen!" Tuff called out as they began the search, "Chickeeeeeeen!"

"Chickeeen!" Serena helped. After not too long of a search, Chicken came to her name, clucking happily and running to Tuffnut.

Tuff scooped up Chicken happily and hugged her, "oh, Chicken, I'd never leave you, I'm so sorry."

Serena smiled in amusement and knelt to pet the fluffy chicks that followed. "Hello, Chicklet, Chicky, Chicknut, Chicken Jr.," she greeted joyously.

After setting Chicken back down, Tuff sighed in relief, "thanks for coming with me, Serena."

"No problem, I wasn't tired anyways," Serena replied energetically, then began to ramble on, "that's why I was throwing knives, you know? First night back, didn't wanna sleep. Astrid tried telling me to stay in but I said 'no way.' She's probably gonna yell at me tomorrow, but that's okay because finding Chicken is worth it, plus I get to spend time with you, which doesn't happen nearly as much as I'd like--"

Tuffnut raised his eyebrows and blushed, "w-what?"

Realizing she'd said too much, Serena tried to cover herself up by distracting Tuffnut. "Hey, where's Chicken's mate?" She began to fast-walk away, "Rooster! Rooooster!"

"Serena, wait!" Tuff chased after her with a pounding heart.

Pretending not to hear him, she picked up her pace and climbed up to the platform above them. "Serena," Tuffnut spoke with a laugh now. After finally catching up with her, Serena slowed down and gave up on trying to run away. Tuff fell in pace beside her as she avoided looking in his direction.

Tuffnut looked to his side and smiled at the flustered look on her face. He took a leap of faith and gently slid his hand into hers. "I like spending time with you, too," he told her in a cool tone.

Serena grinned wildly as the two continued to walk in silence. Eventually, they reached the twins' old hut. "We should stay here tonight," Tuff suggested, "Mystique is way to tired for another trip right now."

"I agree," Serena responded, "I'll send a terror mail to Astrid letting her know not to worry."

As they entered the hut, Serena realized that she was still attatched to Tuff. His fingers were wrapped firmly with hers, and he showed no sign of letting go. Glancing up at him, she caught him staring. They both looked away with red faces.

Finally, Serena spoke, "Tuff, I wanna tell you--"

"--Serena, there's something I wanna talk about--" Tuffnut said at the same exact time. They looked at each other and laughed. Then, Tuff stood infront of Serena and took her other hand into his other one. "Serena, I.." He trailed off nervously.

But Serena already knew what he was trying to say. The look in his baby blue eyes said it all. So she planted a kiss on his cheek. When his eyes widened, she smirked, "yeah, me too, Tuffnut."

Tuffnut smiled wide and gave her a big hug. Serena gladly returned it, the heat of his body warming her own. When they pulled away, Tuff gave her a gentle forehead kiss. Then the two went to sleep, Tuffnut in his bed and Serena in Ruff's old one. The next day they flew home with Chicken and her whole family.
