Newt's P.O.V.

I was on my way to the Hufflepuff Common Room. I just had breakfast and was heading to my dorm to collect my books for todays lessons. I walked into my dorm room and grabbed my books and essay about Levitation Spells, Safety Rules and vials. Me and Y/n agreed to meet at the Charms classroom.

When we had our first lesson of Deffence Against the Dark Arts, Y/n was brilliant. Not every student can success at this spell at first try. Y/n is very talented. But I think that I saw a bit of jealousy in Leta's eyes. And then she became furious. But her spell wasn't as good as Y/n's. And I really liked professor Dumbledore. I think he is the best teacher out of all I have seen.

After walking around the Halls for a while I reached the Charms classroom. Y/n was already there. She was focused at sketching something on a piece of parchment. As I sat down in saw a Bowtruckle. The drawing was very good. Well, I like to draw creatures too, but my drawings are not even nearly as good as hers. Y/n was so into her work that she didn't even notice me. I didn't even get to say hello when professor Flitwick walked in.

"Good morning, Class. I expect to see your essays, please."

Everyone stood up to hand professor their essays. I handed mine before Y/n and got some time to admire her work. I wonder how many times she had seen a Bowtruckle? When Y/n came back she quickly hid her drawing.

"It is amazing, Y/n." I said.

It was true.

"Really?"

"Yes, it is. How many times have you seen a Bowtruckle?"

"Oh, just once."

"Once? Then you have an incredible memory."

"I guess so."

"Today, we will be talking about the Wand-Lighting Charm." Professor Flitwick said.

"The Wand-Lighting Charm is simple, but requiresed concentration. Take care not to accidentally set your wand alight as damage of this kind can be permanent. If in any doubt about your abilities you would do better to buy yourself a magic lantern."
- Miranda Goshawk on this charm

"The Wand-Lighting Charm, Lumos, is a charm, a light-creation spell, used to illuminate the tip of the caster's wand; This light is fairly warm. The counter-charm for the spell is The Wand-Extinguishing Charm, Nox, which is used to extinguish the light from the caster's wand.

Despite its apparent simplicity, The Wand-Lighting Charm was not invented in 18th century. It was first used publicly by Levina Monkstanley, its inventor, in the Ministry of Magic in 1772 - to the astonishment of her colleagues - to help her look for a fallen quill in a dusty corner.

However, Garvin Lügner, a German wizard, claimed to have been the one who invented this spell, while he was developing his Instant Darkness Powder. It later transpired that Lügner had been lying about the invention of the charm, and that his Instant Darkness Powder did not do too much than slightly dim the lights."

How to perform?

"To illuminate the end of a wand, the caster must call out the incantation 'Lumos'. If correctly incanted, the end of the wand will then illuminate and cast light in the immediate vicinity of the caster. It can also be used to illuminate unseen entrances.

Focus very hard on the tip of your wand and imagine the light pushing out of it as you do so."

I watched as Y/n grabbed her wand and casted the spell. The tip of her wand immediately lit up. She is just brilliant.
