Elsa and Jack took a walk after that. With her arm still in bad shape, there wasn't much else they could do. It was a beautiful summer day and the thought of being anywhere else was pushed away like a bad dream.

They talked and laughed and ended up on the edge of town. The paved roads stopped and gravel replaced them. That's where they turned around.

Elsa held her arm which still hurt horribly.

"Need a piggyback ride?" Jack smirked.

"It's my arm that's broken, not my legs," Elsa answered.

"You know you want one," Jack went further.

"I'm not a child."

"Not on the outside."

Elsa sighed as Jack placed himself in front of her and crouched for her to jump on his back.

"This isn't necessary."

"Neither was walking, but we did it anyway." Jack looked back and smiled at her.

It was too much for Elsa. She hefted herself up onto his back and he carried her. It seemed effortless for him to lift her, and Elsa enjoyed it more than she thought it would.

Somehow, Jack carried her almost all the way back to the house. She made him put her down before they reached her block.

"Can I ask you something?"

Jack shrugged to show he was listening. "Is it good?"

"I don't know yet."

"Okay, what is it?" Jack got curious.

"When can I go to your place? We always hang out at mine, and I don't even know where you live.

"You don't want to hang out at my place."

"Why not?"

"It's not that great, a big step down from where you live."

"Don't say that, I'm sure it's lovely."

"You haven't seen it."

"So I'll have to go over there and judge it from observation." Elsa crossed her arms and grinned at him.

"Sometime," he gave her the short answer. At least it wasn't a no.

"Alright, I'll change the subject. What are your plans for dinner tonight?"

"Who said I wanted to change the subject?"

"You, with your short answers."

Jack looked away and smiled as he ran a hand through his hair.

"I'll have to fix that. Now about dinner?"

"Yeah, you have any plans?"

"Not yet."

"Why don't you eat at my place tonight? We're having chicken," Elsa asked.

"How do you know I'm not vegetarian?" Jack joked.

"I don't know for sure, I was just guessing by the ham sandwich you had at the ice rink a couple weeks ago. Or was that just a one time thing?"

Jack put his hands up in surrender, "You caught me."

❄❄❄

The minute Elsa walked through the door, her parents were at her side.

"What took you so long? You said you'd only be gone for 20 minutes!" Her mother worried.

"We walked to the edge of town, we weren't that long." Elsa reassured.

"You were gone for an hour," her mother said slowly.

"What are you doing walking so far? If you want to get skating again, you need to rest," her father's brow furrowed.

"I'm fine. We lost track of time and the doctor said to use my legs a lot to keep them strong."

They gave up on her there.

"Alright, alright," her mother said. "I-"

"What's for dinner, Mama?" Anna asked, entering the front room.

"Yes, lunch. What would you all like to eat?"

❄❄❄

Jack left before lunch was served. He had to get home and do a few chores. When he parked his car in front of the house, his phone beeped. A text from Tooth.

Tooth: u going 2 the summer dance?

Jack: not sure. If Elsa wants to. Why?

Tooth: a guy asked me...

Jack: who?

Tooth: don't get all brotherly or anything

Jack: I pinky swear

Tooth: ok, his name is Blake Pitch

Jack: isn't he the guy that won't let anyone sit with him @ lunch?

Tooth: yeah, but he's really nice and he's going to be the photographer at the dance

Jack: in that case, I better come and keep an eye on u

Tooth: haha, thanks. See u there!
