I'm Sure I'm Happy

Jack wasn't too comfortable wearing the nice shirt and pants he had put on. Elsa called and asked if he was coming to dinner and after a while, he complied. He had to dress nicely though. He straightened his shirt collar in the mirror by the door before strolling to his car. He swung his keys around his finger and whistled a tune he wasn't even sure was a real song.

Getting in his car, he turned the key to- do nothing. He tried again. Still nothing. The car wasn't even trying to start. He tried it a couple more times. "Shoot!" He hit his steering wheel and leaned back in his seat. Just what he needed.

He got out and popped the hood. As far as he could tell, everything looked fine. He closed it and looked to his house where a single light in the kitchen was on. Would he dare turn to his mother? She would definitely want to know more about Elsa, though he'd already told her some. And she'd also want to meet her parents. Was it worth the ride?

❄❄❄

Elsa looked out the window eagerly. Still no Jack. She sat down and checked her phone where there wasn't a single message or call. She sighed and looked out the window again.

"He's not going to magically appear if you stare out the window hard enough," Anna joked.

"I know, but he said he'd be here, though I know he didn't want to too badly..."

"Calm down, he'll show."

Elsa sighed, "yeah."

Just then, headlights showed though the curtains in the window.

"See!? What'd I tell you!" Anna smiled and crossed her arms.

Elsa gave her a sideways grin that said "don't rub it in" and went to the door.

❄❄❄

"Mom, I told you, I can walk to the door by myself."

"I know you're capable, I just want to get to know this girl and her family." His mother countered as they pulled up in front of Elsa's house. "Wow! Is that just one house? It's huge!" She commented.

"It's just one house. You can just drop me off here," Jack said, unbuckling.

"No, I'll properly drop you off at the door." She stated.

"This isn't a big deal, it's just dinner. You can pick me up in a couple hours."

His mother got out the car with him.

"Mom, seriously, it's fine."

"If it's fine, there's nothing to worry about then," she gave him a sweet, innocent smile and rang the doorbell.

Elsa answered it.

"Why, hello," Elsa answered kindly.

"Hello dear. My you're so much prettier than Jack described you. He did say you were beautiful and my is he right! I'm his mother, by the way, it's so nice to meet you."

Elsa smiled, "thank you, and it's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Frost. Do come in?"

"Thank you, such a sweet girl." She entered the house and admired the decor. Jack came in behind her. Elsa closed the door behind him.

"You told your mother about me?" Elsa whispered, though not really a question. She smirked at Jack.

Jack smiled back but whispered back, "it's more than I can say for you."

"I'm sorry, okay. I'll tell them soon, I promise."

"I hope now is okay, because my mother isn't the one to hang back from a conversation."

Elsa's eyes grew wide. Uh oh.

❄❄❄

Elsa's parents came to greet their guests.

"Hello, you must be Mr. And Mrs. Arendelle. What a lovely home you have," Mrs. Frost complimented.

"Thank you," Elsa's mom smiled.

Pretty soon a conversation took off. Elsa watched carefully for signs that Jack's mother might bring up their whole dating status. It wouldn't have been a big deal if Elsa had told them herself, but hearing if from her boyfriend's mother would have a different effect. She hadn't mentioned it earlier mostly because of their absence from home, but also slightly of fear. Jack's appearance didn't exactly make a good impression right now. Sure he was dressed nicely, but his face was bruised along with his arms, part of which had been her fault. The new bruise on his cheek, though was still a little unclear, but pronounced enough to make his appearance slightly sloppy.

"I've heard so much about Jack's girlfriend, Elsa. She is absolutely the sweetest. I'm so glad they're together."

Elsa snapped back to the situation. Now it was really: Uh oh.

❄❄❄

"Jack's been around quite a lot lately. It's a pleasure to have him over." Elsa's father said kindly, but giving Elsa the we'll talk later look. Elsa looked down at her shoes. She glanced at Jack, who was grinning.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you." Elsa whispered to him.

He nodded, still grinning.
