Chapter 20 : Talent Show

Mitch stands with me behind stage, keeping look out for Jeremiah. "Listen, you're going to do great, I don't doubt you for a second."

I'm nervous as hell. I shake my hands and take deep breaths and look at myself in my mirror. I have a dress on. Its white on the top and is blue and purple cheetah print on the bottom thats short in the front and then has a long back. (pic on side)

"Jasmine Hastings?" someone asks and I turn around.

"That's me," I say.

"You're on next," he says, but I just nod and then turn to Mitch. "i can't do this..."

"Yes, you can!" he says and I start humming and close my eyes.

"Jasmine, let's go," the guy says and I walk over and onto the stage.

"What's yout name dear?" a bald guy asks.

"It's Jasmine Hastings."

"And what will you be doing?" he asks.

"Singing," I say and he nods and the music starts going. I see Jeremiah in the crowd sitting with Jillian. It infuriates me, so I smile, feeling spontaneous.

"Last night I heard my own heart beating Sounded like footsteps on my stairs Six months gone and I'm still reaching Even though I know you're not there I was playing back a thousand memories, baby Thinking 'bout everything we've been through Maybe I've been going back too much lately When time stood still and I had you," I sing staring at him. I want him back. I do...

"Come back, come back, come back to me like You would, you would if this was a movie Stand in the rain outside 'til I came out Come back, come back, come back to me like You could, you could if you just said you're sorry I know that we could work it out somehow But if this was a movie you'd be here by now"

"I know people change and these things happen But I remember how it was back then Wrapped up in your arms and our friends were laughing 'Cause nothing like this ever happened to them, Now I'm pacing down the hall, chasing down your street Flashback to the night when you said to me, "Nothing's gonna change, not for me and you Not before I knew how much I had to lose""

"If you're out there If you're somewhere If you're moving on I've been waiting for you ever since you've been gone I just want it back the way it was before And I just wanna see you back at my front door," I sing this part with tears in my eyes. he cheated on me, made me cry many times, but I don't even care...

"Come back, come back, come back to me like you would, you would if it was just that easy, before the fight before I locked you out. But I'd take it all back now!...... You'd be here by now It's not the kind of ending you wanna see now Baby, what about the ending Oh, I thought you'd be here by now, whoa Thought you'd be here by now...," I sing softly and head off stage after hearing that I was "an amazing singer" from the judges.

"That was great," Mitch tells me.

"Thanks," I smile. I know, it wasn't embarrassing, but it's what we came up with.

I sit down and chug some water

Since I was one of the last contestants, they are considering the winner now. When they call it, it isn't me, but I don't care, I just want Jeremiah.

He drives us home, but no one talks not even after he drops of Mitch at his girlfriends and Jillian home. I turn to him, but he doesnt look at me, he just keeps driving, tensely.

"I love you, Jeremiah," I tell him and that's the last thing said before he swerves off the road and flies into a tree and everything goes black.
