Many of us aspire to be rich, famous, and powerful. We look up to names such as Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, Michael Jordan, and our very own Manny Pacquiao. In our daily existence, we are caught up by the fact that we want to live our best in this planet. That is why we have spas, restaurants, hotels, resorts, luxurious items and the like to accommodate this intense aspiration within.

It might be true that traveling to places, making a name in an industry, and having a great wealth are deemed to be good. However, we still cannot escape the fact that these things fade and will never follow us when we die. If this is the case then, is there something far lasting than the things mentioned?

In today's gospel (Mt. 16:24-28), we are confronted by this message of Jesus to His disciples, "What will one gain by winning the whole world if he destroys himself?" In other words, our success in this world is useless if it would not lead us to eternal life.  May we always remember to put Jesus first no matter how difficult our situations are for he is the way, the truth, and everlasting life. Amen
